Help Me Decide on Wheels

I haven't bought a set of wheels in 35 years - my then 1987 Ford Ranger. Aside form the the 44 offset, I'm pretty happy with the OEMs, but I saw the RockTrix RT105s a few days ago and now I want them, but I can't make up my mind if I want gun metal or matte black.

Regarding the offset, I am currently running 285/70/17s and do not intend on going to 35s. Any recommendations on going with 12 or -12?

The negative offset will push the wheels away from the jeep (stick out farther), while the positive offset will push the wheels closer to the jeep.

negative offsets look completely ridiculous . As a kid we called them “Mexican trucks”. It seems as they are a poser way of mimicking a jeep that has upgraded axles. But a lot of people do them so whatever you want.

I to was not interested in 35’s when looking for wheels but not happy with the factory offset. I also did not want a wheel with such a negative offset that would cause more wear on my ball joints and steering and still give me the possibility to move to 34 or 35 if I wanted so I decided to go with Battle Born’s 17x10 with 0 offset gave me better backspacing and a little poke

I like the bottom picture. I guess that is the gun metal. The wheels pop with the grey of the truck. I'm not crazy over a lot of poke, so I would pick the +12 off set. Great looking truck!

-12 is excessive and serves no purpose other than looks.
+12 MAY have a function if you're going with wider tires, but honestly the sweet spot for 315s or 12.5s with the wide axles is +25 IMO, so like +19 for non-wide axles i'm thinking? +12 sounds close enough.

But if you're sticking with 285s on non-wide axles, anything from +35 to +25 should be great.

Personal bias statement: I run +6 on wide axles with 315s (i really wanted steel wheels, where options are limited). I didn't like the amount of poke I had so i added XR flare extensions to cover them up.

I like a little poke and am running -12 offset. I see no problem with it.

I like the bottom picture of the choices. I choose to go with bronze and absolutely love the contrast. Was going with the 392 wheels but I'm glad I didn't it makes everything pop. To each there on, just go with what you want.

For wheels there’s only two things I take into consideration besides NO POKE on my vehicles! They are weight and strength. To get both you need forged wheels that are very expensive but light and strong, not exactly stronger than steel but lighter. Plus no wheels over 15,16 or 17” has any business being off road. Low profile tires on big wheels are just a huge waste of money! Better off buying 17” forged racing wheels and the tires that fit all cost less than say 20+” with low profile tires of the same overall diameter.

Love the Bronze 392 rims, and on my Mojave with Hydro blue think I'll love it even more. Which tire and size did you go with there?

I knew I was going to run 37" or larger tires, and I knew I wanted wide tires, so I went with -38 offset on a 17x9, which is the same backspacing as a -18 offset on a 17x7.5 wheel. Both have 3" backspacing.
