What type hitch skid is your choice, why?
I am trying to decide which one would be best to protect the bumper. A step is nice, but the bumper has an area built in that can be used as a step. A simple skid seems like it limits protection.

I don’t have access to a welder. I could drill and tap bolts to assemble a skid but I don’t think that would last more than 1/2 a hit.

I went with number three Warfab Sheridan biggest differences are it is not a step but it also protects your safety chain attachment plate which can get destroyed, and is a solid shackle attachment point. I can not leave things alone and cut mine down a bit to be only 1/4” below chains. Which gives more clearance but on flip side it might allow bumper get hit more as it does not drag as soon …..Jack

Thank you. I hadn’t thought about the chain attachment points.

Thank you, I like their design. Is the skid plate 1/4”? In some pictures it looks like it might be.

No clue. You would have to ask them, as I no longer have one.

I have choice number one. It works great. Did hells revenge, top of the world, golden spike and Kane creek. Did its job well. Nice that you can use the hole for soft shackle through the hole to pull the person behind you if needed :)

I drug the crap out of this one in Moab. They don’t necessarily recommend using it as a slider but I can attest to it holding up. It did just fine and it’s got a soft shackle mounting point. Mohawk 2.0

Looks better than welding a mounting point on top of a skid plate. Less likely to snap off.

My thoughts exactly. Also, the one I got came with a metal sleeve that you can put inside the soft shackle hole. This allows you to rotate the unit 90 degrees so the hole is vertical, and you can put a tow ball on it if need be. I carry a tow ball hitch in my recovery bag so I didn’t need to use that option, but it’s nice to have choices available.
