Have you ever wondered where you're going to mount a lightbar switch if you don't have the auxiliary switches under the radio and don't want to get involved with taking the whole dashboard apart? I was watching a video on how to install a VOSwitch (Installing a VOSwitch on a Jeep JL by DEFIANT JEEP) when it hit me. I don't need to buy a separate switch or drill a mounting hole in my dash, I just need to mount my factory light bar switch in the same place as you would a VOSwitch on the top of my grab-bar. There is plenty of room to mount a switch in the top cap/cover (or bottom cover) that conceals the 10mm bolts holding the grab bar on. Run the lightbar wiring through the access hole/cover in the firewall then take off the grab-bar. I ran the light-bar wiring up through and behind the dash, coming out in an open corner that's behind the grab bar. (FYI - At the 22 minute mark of the video they show you a neat little trick on how to pull up the wiring under the dash.) I used a "Flexible Grabber Claw Pick Up Reacher Tool" with 4 claws that I snaked down that hole until I could reach my lightbar wiring behind the dash, grabbed the wiring and pulled it up. Then, using a paddle bit I Drilled a 3/4" hole in the top grab-bar cap to mount the switch and an access hole behind it to run the wires inside to the switch. Hooked up the wiring and put the grab-bar back on. (Also, I figured it would be cheaper to replace a grab-bar cap if I screwed it up.)

Looks good.

Finding a decent place for switches without it looking scabbed in and accessible is kind of a pain in these vehicles. I got a set of Rubicon Axles coming in and am trying to figure out how I am going to wire up the lockers and where to place the switches without having to buy either the MOPAR aux switch setup or something like the VOSwtich you mention which I do not like their relay setup under the hood.

Have you looked into the Lasfit setup. Looks factory but you won't have to deal with the PCM at all.

Thanks for unintentionally giving me an idea. I was considering where to mount the knob for my Kicker Hideaway and your no switches "under the radio" reminded me that the tray down there is basically useless! Might as well try to mount the knob in there!

It is in consideration but I would almost just lean towards the MOPAR AUX Switch kit if I had to go down that route.

I just do not like the relay box setup of either Lasfit or VOSwitch that hang off the inner fender, especially on the passenger side as I am already tight with my winch cutoff switch setup.

I used S-Tech for my relay box. It does hang off the inner fender but on the driver's side. My quest for switch placement went down the expensive route. overhead molle panel, a switch box from Motobilt and then a custom switch panel from Concord Aerospace. It's awesome set up. Ended up sinking more money into it than I anticipated though...

Looks good. Thought of something similar. I like aerospace guarded switches.
