I am so glad about the low taxes here in Florida but the downside is that wages are low compared to the property values. So many employed here are in the hospitality industry (restaurants, hotels, travel) and service industries; typically not high paying jobs. So many people come to live here, especially from the Northeast, sell their homes for a million, and find they can get a smaller oceanfront or near oceanfront home for that price (or at least a nice condo). This has been especially true since the Covid thing when people started working from home more. It has put so much pressure on the housing market here. I live in the FL Keys, and I don't know of any area in the 125 mile stretch of the Keys that the median price of a home is less than a million (ok, Key Largo where I live here was $950,000 last year). But you get the point.

Duuuude.... you win (or lose) on the property value front!
I remember being down there and seeing where like a dozen people grouped together to rent a house near where they worked in tourist shops. Bed's everywhere but the bathroom.

2.5 acres, 950 square foot house if you don't count a mostly finished basement (which is still a basement), built in 1980 (45 years old), TINY bedrooms (no room for a king size bed, one is barely nursery size), aging well and septic system, no access to "rural water" system, have to spend a grand a year shocking the well and using bottled water -
$4,000/year property taxes.
Here in Middle Tennessee: 5 acre parcel of land, 1660 sq ft house built in 1996, well and septic - property tax this year was $1380

Have 2 stepsons outside of Denver Co. The one bought a house for $300K outside of Bailey. Sold it 3 yrs later for $500K. Used that money to build a house in Erie. Lived there for about 3 yrs and got tired of all the new housing around him. Sold that house for $800K. Bought a house on 45 acres outside of Bailey for $750K. Now he got a tax bill for $1,2 million property value which he is fighting.

The other stepson lives outside of Parker. He bought a house on 5 acres for $300K about 9 yrs ago. Value last year what he told me was over $600K.

I would never live around the Denver area. Can't afford it.

1/3 of the taxes on twice the property.

It's not that bad if you have a decent career, salaries are pretty good there and they have a lot of employee benefits.

I left Denver because it's too far from the mountains for me. Driving an hour or two to go mountain biking or snowboarding is lame.

I'm in the Denver area about twice a year. My wifey is from there.

Nice. We lived in Capitol Hill and Baker neighborhoods. I love going back to visit, but every time we think about moving back, I just can't deal with all the driving lol

Most of the wifey's family has moved away. Oldest brother when he retired went to Surprise Az. The other moved Mountain Home Ark. Sister is planning on moving out shortly. The only one's left is the 2 boys and a few cousins. When the boys retire. They're moving. Said that Colorado has become East Cali.

I saw you mentioned Erie earlier, we have a good amount of land in Meadville and just south of Pittsburgh near Elizabeth. I'm back there quite a bit too as family ages.

Yeah, that's Erie Co. not Erie Pa.

I'm about 30 miles south of the 'burgh, on the Monongahela River.
