I have done consulting at dealerships. Never trust a service dept manager. Their entire lives are built on one word: "no."
I have no doubt there are those people out there, this guy isn't one of them, I promise. He's a pretty hard-core wheeler, have known him for over 20 years.

Every internet jock on this thread with a 3.6 needs go out, open their hood and measure the 7+ inches from the actual engine block to the back of the fan please. With different motor mounts this engine will fit. Period.

But I still trust my buddy and don't desire to put a garbage engine into my Gladiator. $.02

If I went for a different engine, I'd just stab a HEMI in there.

The 3.6 is 19.8 inches long, the i6 is 33 inches. Unless you are measuring an extra foot, it's not gonna fit, it's almost 5 inches longer than the 392 which basically used up all the available space.

Obviously you can make almost anything fit, but it's not just some motor mounts and call it good.

HA, I love how that page has the requirement " must have a VIN to complete purchase" . OK, I'll give you a VIN, not going to be mine though. ;)
They might need a matched VIN for programming.

I was all set to buy a Ram with the hurricane before I bought a Gladiator but all the negative info form actual owners of them turned me away. It seems software and cooling issues are/were the biggest complaints, and with stellantis not able to produce enough spare parts I didnt want to end up with a brick. Hope the cam issue doesnt bite me in the butt on the Glady.

As a diesel JT owner, I'm shocked, SHOCKED, I tell you! at the thought of a Jeep having cooling issues.

So more extensive research shows the front is no problem, it's the fire wall side that is. Not insurmountable, but not plug and play.

FWIW, I am a "weight kills" off roader and it has served me well. My Billy goats climb things others are surprised at and it's based on this philosophy: one championed by the original GP. I truly believe that for a part time use JT the turbo inline Six would epitomize this and play homage to the inline 4.0.
I've driven V8 JTs and they are all too heavy for my breed of off roading.

Really? An aluminum block LS is a couple hundred pounds lighter than the iron block and iron head of the 4.0 and easily makes 3-4x the power.

But the 4.0 has large cylinder spacing, closed deck, tall stroke and was created in the 1980s.
On the other hand, there's a 4.0 that kicks out over 800 HP.

But if the focus is weight, an aluminum V8 weighs less than the iron I6 - even if you match power for power, the lighter aluminum engine is going to win on the weight side.

Don't get me wrong, I love the simplicity of that 4.0, but it's a boat anchor of an engine.
