I SOOOOO Get that!
Good comparison: Before I went to flight school and converted to an officer, I was an enlisted soldier in a tank battalion.
The bottom line is: The warrant officer is all better now...
A drift O.T. on your thread: Are you on Ret. Side now or A.D. I figured Ret reading M60 tanks... if on Ret. side you flying civ. Medvac flights? If so I might know one of your fellow pilots, "Clay" I noticing the KY home, he mentioned to me someone named Don I think and someone with a Gladiator.

I know a Clay Hut______ who pinned a star not long ago. I knew him at Campbell. We flew for that crazy unit there when he and I were much younger. Retired now, and I i think am all done with sport flying. My career ended suddenly in southern Afghanistan. I was medevaced home to a new life. I actually did a long Armee career then a second flying career as a contract pilot in all the vacation spots...Iraq...Afghanistan... I didn't have any interest in medevac jobs or anything of a nonmilitary flavor. 5 years of flying commercial airliners cured me of that!

:like: definitely a different "Clay" he was at Ft Rucker at retirement a WO3/4 he's now flying the civ medvac flights.
I didn't get to spend any time in that one but quite some time in Iraq. Got a long tour in 03-04. I actually was trying to stay there then too. In 6 months I paid off half my mortgage. Just a old E-6 here FYI.

Even if I just pulled everything from a wrecked unit?
Second thought, emissions
Here in Kentucky, we differ greatly from the California. No one cares about emissions stuff here at all. No checks, no inspections, no Gestapo, nada.
We all can that crap about as fast as we can
I think I would be more along the line of using some Canadian people to write the tune I want sans tree hugger garbage.
And the prospect of swapping to a Chevy LT drivetrain is quite a task in its own right. So the difficulty factor is somewhat of a wash...
It’s more a matter of fact of how the engine was designed. You need all of that equipment that comes standard from the factory for it to run. It’s not just a simple swap, which to most that have replied on here have noted that this will be an expensive Build or swap. even if you take the power train out of a wreck, JT, it is way more involved work to switch. Now, if you were speaking of a Cummins or other diesel option, if it fits that might be worth looking into as a requirements with those aren’t the same as a factory 3 L eco-diesel.

I can’t say what will happen if you delete the EGR and other extras that I think causes more maintenance issues than they are worth. But there is a market for that so I’d say have at it.
Don’t blame you for wanting to do this either, especially considering all the work put into the build.
Here something to read on diesel swaps that might apply:

Allow me to put this thread to bed where it rightfully belongs.
I am not going to swap over to what I consider a "poor" diesel engine in my Gladiator
I think I am about to pull the trigger on installing the 505 hp AMW 6.4 hemi conversion.

1) its an incredible motor for the platform. I chose it deliberately and would choose it again and I don't have financial guardrails forcing that choice.
2) if you're gonna spend the money and deal with fuel mileage in the single digits, the 426 is the one to go to

I believe the base kit is more than sufficient for my needs. I would like to be able to tow the 7,700 my Jeep is rated for. I want a good highway cruise at 75mph. I want to climb highway hills effortlessly. I DO NOT want to do any power-brake tire smoking sessions and I will line up at a red light against exactly, Nobody. Extra HP is fine but the added torque would be more welcome from a 426. The increased $10K hole in my bank account would not be so the base kit gets my vote. So far I am 70% of the way there (Saving my pennies for the conversion).

Perhaps you wouldn't, but I would

Question stands...

Anyone heard of this happening?
Unless you scored the entire ecodiesel JT or JL wrecked at a huge discount it would never be worth the time and money. If you're paying for a crate motor, accessories, transmission, etc at new price you'd be better off buying a brand new JT and swapping the parts you want from yours and then selling yours.
