And yet someone here said I'd be "better served" with a Taco.......... while you and others complain about the transmissions and so on. Apparently the one making such a recommendation has never owned on.
I never owned one but my boss did made me drive it for 2 yrs. The absolute most uncomfortable non climbing unwieldy terrible leaning tire wearing worthless piece of $#!t I ever had the misfortune to drive

Me too. Even with the Tesla I still have so much excess I was hoping for another electric something.

In NM our excess production is banked so in the summers with AC our electric bill remains free. We've had solar for about 5 years and 85% is already paid off.

They were fast for their time and some of them are still fast today.

A Hemi Cuda ran about a 13 second 1/4 mile.
I had a 71 Chevy Nova SS with a 327 and sponsored by Crower. It would shake the windows on neighbors houses, and beat nearly everything on the road and strip. Miss it tremendously - then there was the 9 mpg...

Nice!

In CA it's roughly the same - it banks all year but whatever "isn't used" at the end of the year is reset to 0 - no credit for it. Solar pays off quick in Socal. Electric bill would be about $1,000/mo without solar here but it's $25 which is just fees and taxes. Saving about $450/mo due to no gasoline too.

We don't get the reset each January. I was surprised that CA did that. I'm from San Diego originally - Spring Valley.

lol @ Youtube comments.
HATE trans on my 23. Terminally confused. Toyota sucks.
I was on 32's and regeared to 5.29s and it was soooooo much better. It drove like it should, almost zero gear hunting, actually had throttle response, slight bump in mpgs (16 avg). It ALMOST made me like the truck, but was still underpowered and still had mediocre mpgs. I wanted to upsize to 33's or 35's and knew it would probably drop to around 14mpgs, and I wasn't ok with that especially when I need to tow.

Low mpgs but plenty of power - acceptable
Low power but good mpgs - can be acceptable
Low power and low mpgs - unacceptable

I had the '23 Taco in for service - asked about any trans programming updates since it is so bad. Dude says "no - that's just the way modern electronic autos are". I told him my Jeep auto shifts instantly on throttle and is awesome. Blank stare.

It's due to two things;

1) piss poor transmission programming aimed at best fuel economy

"The 3rd-gen Tacoma uses a primary table that controls only the limits of the gear itself. It does not have control over shifting up or down, but rather only has control over the limits and conditions of when the gear can be used. What that means is that if all conditions are met, the ECU can select any gear at any time it is required, as long as that gear meets the appropriate conditions. If the computer 'wants' sixth gear, it will select sixth gear. If the computer 'wants' third gear, it will select third gear."

2) 6spd instead of an 8spd like it should have been. Toyota is always 10 years behind the competition.

Back around 2016 I test drove a Tacoma. I was getting ready to move on from sports cars and go off road.

It was so awful that I ended up in a two door JK. Even the 5 speed auto in the JK knew what it was doing better than the Taco. Drove that thing for 6 years / 90K miles and moved into my Gladiator. Absolutely no interest in revisiting a Taco again after that experience alone.

Yeah, I contemplated test driving a 4th Gen Tacoma, apparently they are 100xs better, but after thinking about it I came to the conclusion that it's still a Tacoma and they are rather boring to drive and would probably still feel old and cheap. I do like the looks of almost all generations of Tacomas and 4Runners, maybe not always in stock form, but with a lift and tires I think they look good.

I still have the little taco squeeze toy that my buddy bought when I had my Tacoma. It sits on the dash of the Gladi. I want to make a sticker to put on it that says "I traded a Taco for this Jeep. No Regrets." See how many Taco fan boys I can make lose their minds lol.

Yes the investor excitement is palpable

Who ever owns it let see how it goes in 2 years. It might be double this with sales without CAFE penalties.

The batt would have been very nice for camping. The truck would have made good power and much less fuel then the v8. Oh well thank god I have my Eco Diesel which I would not change anyhow.

Iam talking about the new, 4th generation Tacoma hybrid with 8speed transmission. Gets about 23 mpg and is an all new platform. You should look into one of those. Has lots of ground clearance, Toyota reliability, 326hp/465tq and a big honkin infotainment screen so you can jam out to John Denver on your way to the early bird at Bob Evan's.

Doesn't hurt to go test drive one!
