I recently bought I used 2022 rubicon that already came lifted with tires etc. The previous owner had only put 4k miles on after lift. I was driving down some gravel road and noticed the potholes were very jarring at 20-25MPH. Any ideas how to improve? Or is this typical for metalcoak? Has factory Rubicon shocks which I am thinking may not be helping. Photo is what the prior owner had done as well. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

You have limited travel because you're taxing the stock struts. You need properly sized ones.
Ok perfect that’s what I assumed. Just wanted to be sure there wasn’t something I was missing.

I'd definitely start with putting on the correct shocks. It's wild that someone would spend the money on all of that and not put on shocks.

The enormous 20" wheel and steam rollers tires may not be helping either - but one thing at a time 😆

MC lifts do ride a little stiffer than stock. I had one on my previous Jeep. Not terrible, but it was definitely heavier duty then the OEM stuff.

I thought it was odd too. He spent a lot of money outfitting the truck and said no to shocks? Still the most expensive parts of what I wanted to do are already taken care of for me.

Imagine spending that kind of money for MC parts and not getting appropriate shocks. Even the RockSport Reds would be an improvement over OE.

Go get yourself some real shocks, either from MC that are made for that lift, or some Bilstein 5100s for now. @Metalcloak has excellent customer service, give them a call if you need help picking the right shocks.

That’s also only page 1 of 5. He probably spent twice as much on lights as he would’ve for shocks.

MetalCloak springs are designed to support an additional 600lbs of weight over the factory load rating.

They do that because, for an offroad vehicle, we usually add a bunch of stuff to our vehicles. lol

Shocks and 20" wheels are likely more important to the ride quality issues that you're experiencing, though. You could try lowering the tire pressure. 30-35 PSI is pretty common for a Jeep.

I missed the 20" rims. Sell or trade those for some 17" Methods or Racelines with real rubber on them.

customer did the HD steering upgrade with the MC lift and still kept factory shocks? I hope someone can elaborate on how this beneficial, the customer had money it seems.

My MC 3.5 lift has the red rocksports ( i like the red look on the jeep. the fox shocks are not as aesthetically pleasing) and i will replace them when they fail. MC gets all my business. I have a pavement princess for the most part.

Damn, replaced the drive shaft too?!?!

I have the red RockSports and they ride way better than the OE Fox shocks - but my OEs were on the way out when I bought the truck and failed a year later.

I think you have to do the driveshaft if you are going up more than 1.5-2" to prevent binding. I did the driveshaft with a 2.5 GameChanger kit.

No need to ditch the 20" wheels. 37s still provide plenty of sidewall for a decent ride. Shocks and setting the tire pressure at 25-28psi for the road and 10-15 psi when wheeling should be night and day vs what you just experienced.

The driveshaft binding is a result of droop travel not lift height. With the rocksport reds 12"+ travel you'll want a driveshaft. I still run the stock shaft in the mojave with 3.5" metalcloak springs as I'm still running the stock Mojave shocks with extensions and don't have any binding. When I swap them out for longer travel shocks I'll need a front driveshaft.

i have not my driveshaft yet, but you are 100% correct. It is next on my list to replace.

I did the true dual and built my kit up bc 'ill save money' i was wrong and a liar. lmao

if i could do it again, i would have gone game changer out of the gate.

Ya I don’t think money was a concern form him (lucky me) but that was a wild omission after putting at least 20k into the project.
