That powertrain is pretty in line with the Taco, Colorado, Frontier, and Ranger.

Hmm. Maybe Dakota? I can see it in the JL and JT. It's just the way everyone is going.
Not the Frontier, it’s using a naturally aspirated 3.8 V6

This ☝ ☝ ☝ ☝
I grew up with I-6's this is factual
While I don’t disagree with you you can bet that Stelantis will go cheap and adapt a motor to fit instead of developing a whole new motor so it will never happen.

What about below 2500 RPM?
The I6 might have a slight advantage, but the V8 still makes more torque at peak.

Do you know any other I6 vs V8 examples of similar displacement and from the same manufacturer in the same era that we can compare to see if there is truth to an I6 making more torque than a V8?

It looks like there’s a decent amount of room in the engine bay for servicing (at least in the GC shown). The turbo is in an easy spot to get to as well being up top and in front. The intercooler, exhaust manifold and water pump also look pretty easy to get at. I can’t tell how buried the 8 spark plugs are.

I changed spark plugs on a Cobra Mustang back in the 70s - had to raise the front of the car, disconnect engine mounts and a few other things, and lift the engine to get to the 8 spark plugs. There was no other way.
It took quite a while.

A good friend of mine (a few years older than me) became an auto mechanic right after high school back in the 70's. I recall him really being pissed when he told me one of the first cars he was working on for the company was a small Chevy (I forget the name but it might have been the V8 Monza or something). He said they had to literally lower the engine and some other stuff to get access to the rear plugs.

DIdn't sound like fun to me.

Well that just stinks. I hate designs with no thought to serviceability.

I owned a Subaru once that had a 2.5 l turbo boxer motor. This engine was wiiiiide sice its horizontally opposed cylinders. This thing was wedged between the strut towers and the heads were literally like a 1” off the towers. getting those plugs out involved lots of swearing and cut hands on sharp edges. You couldn’t even see what you were doing, it was all by feel.

The Ram Cummins (inline 6) has made more torque than the Powerstroke and Duramax at various times over the last few decades. The power wars will continue, but Ram is still using the inline 6 while Ford and GM are using V8s.

Which also means it's made less than similar displacement v8 diesels at various times kind of disproving the statement the I6s will make more torque? If it's not always true than it's a false statement.

They also didn't hide a timing chain or oil pump chain on the back side against the transmission like some brands like to do nowadays.

Are we comparing gas engines, or are diesels now dragged into it?

I just replied to the comment comparing the Cummins to Ford and Chevy v8 diesels. Personally I don't think you could fit even the TT6 in the JL/JT due to length and certainly not an I6 large enough to compete with the Hemi as far as NA power so it's kind of a moot point. I've preferred every v8 I've ever owned vs any of the I6s from the same era but like you pointed out they are usually higher displacement too.

I think we're on the same page.
