Can someone point me to where the temperature sensor is on this transmission?
Transmission temperature sensor is integrated into the TCM that is attached to the internal valve body.

Alrighty then, I think for this experiment I’ll get my tranny as hot it will get as I drive across town and back, then shoot the pan where at the location of the filter pickup to the rear of pan AND the oil heater and see if oil temps say what the dash does. @ShadowsPapa, would we be in the ballpark with that?

Had to drive across town today and back and got tranny temps way up to scorching temps of 167F and crawled underneath to shoot my thermal infrared gun all over … this is my real world data and don’t know what to say beyond the pics…
Dash reads 165F tranny temps, coolant is 204F and engine is 194F.
Back end of pan under fill hole, furthest from the exhaust pipe reads 133F, the aluminum above the fill hole reads 129F and the heater unit reads 150F.

Nothing to suggest the internal temp sensor is not accurate. Unless you tap for your own sensor, there is still going to be a fair amount of heat soak and wicking through the metal surfaces, especially any aluminum contact of the fluid.

I assume that temp is 30 (F) - well, DUH, of course it's going to run cool. I thought you were talking when it's 80 degrees outside maybe with some wind or hills.
If it was 30 degrees here I'd have to drive to Altoona and back against the wind to get it over 190

You’re almost impossible, not totally, but almost. There is hope for you. Do these photos tell what I’m saying?

I saw this and thought - yeah, it makes sense if it's 30 out he's going to have the inside temp set to 73 or so.
I mean - you see it set to 73, I had to assume you are using F temps. I figured it was cold out and you had the heat on set to 73.

At any rate, all three of mine have run over 165-170 transmission temps.
Maybe your cooler never bypasses so it's always cooling it.

I think today was a test to see if the thermal gun would read what the dash was saying and I was surprised the spread was so far apart. I guess we try this again in the summer when ambient is hotter. I’ll have done my 5th pan drop by April and completely anticipating my tranny temps to be in the mid 160’s through the summer months. Until then,… we return to our regular programming
