I have never had an issue filling up with a nozzle. From New Mexico to Montana California Nevada Oregon Utah Arizona
You must get lucky. I just got home from Utah and came across 3 stations that only had commercial diesel pumps. I don't remember what brands each were, but I do remember one was a Sinclair.

I will admit they are getting better at including more passenger vehicle diesel pumps at newer stations. It used to be you only had one or two available, but I'm starting to see more where each lane has diesel, and some even have signs saying which lanes have diesel.

You are lucky. I've had issues. Living in New Mexico I have a come across a few of the smaller diesel pumps that requires the stupid funnel adapter. After dealing with that twice, I removed the stupid discriminator.

Also, on this last trip I experimented with how much I could actually get in the tank. I could indeed get another 2-2.5 gallons after it initially clicked off, but it would take forever. I tried multiple ways, let it sit after clicking off while I washed windows or cleaned out the truck, tried filling the entire tank at the slowest setting in hopes it wouldn't foam as much, but nothing seemed to make much of a difference.

Once I did wait to see how long it would take to actually completely fill until I could see fuel in the neck, but I bet I sat there another 10 minutes trying to fill slow enough. Sometimes I could angle the nozzle just right and it would foam up less often, but you have to go so slow that it was still taking too long. The amount of extra time it takes is not worth the extra 50ish miles in range.

The auto diesel nozzle is the middle size, gasoline nozzle is the smallest size. The gasoline nozzle is too small to trigger the release for the filler tube restrictor.

No more fiddling with nasty adapters to put additives in.
I never have used an adapter; just put the EDT in, one oz at a time, and it drains past the flapper no problem. Also, my latest EDT has a long neck on it; I haven't opened it yet but looks like it's to poke into the restrictor...so maybe a moot point moving forward.

Also, NEVER run your tank too low. Any air that is introduced to the system can damage the already problematic CP4 fuel pump. 1/4 tank is the lowest I like to see. I'll admit I've had to run lower when travelling because of the lack of stations in some areas, but running lower than 1/4 tank should be avoided.
I guess I ALWAYS run my tank too low. I don't have time to fill up every day, so I fill up as infrequently as possible and wait for the fuel light to come on. every time.

It takes an extra 5-16 minutes sometimes to fully fuel up to the top lip.
To get my extra 2.0–2.5 gallons, I sometimes get close to 5 mins but never more than that. Spending that 5 minutes is less time out of my life than filling up more frequently (extra 50 miles range is good!).


And to answer the OP question, my last four fill-up receipts: 19.5, 19.8, 19.4, 19.5 gallons...

When I still had the restrictor in. I tried putting the gas nozzle in just to see if it fits. It was too big. Plus I've come across gas stations that had put the gas nozzle on their diesel pumps. And those didn't fit. They were too big to go in to the restrictor. Without the restrictor. I can put any nozzle in. Big rig high flow nozzles and the 5 gal GI gas can nozzles.

The reason I pulled discriminator from my JLRUD was because a Mom and Pop store in CO had the wrong Handle on their diesel pump and I was LOW on fuel. That was also when I found out my JL wasn't shipped with an adapter. It was a very unsettling ride to the next fuel stop.
It is so much better with the discriminator removed, There is no need to worry about nozzle size, Fuel cans and Rotopax cans are a non issue and additive is simple and quick to add. Removing it has been one of my favorite mods.

No disagreement; we all agree the nozzles are diff sizes. Just pointing out a late night typo and asking if you would edit your original post, to prevent confusion for the future reader.

Typo:
The smallest diameter is the auto diesel nozzle. Then the auto gas nozzle. The biggest is the big rig nozzle.
Correct:
The auto diesel nozzle is the middle size, gasoline nozzle is the smallest size. The gasoline nozzle is too small to trigger the release for the filler tube restrictor.

Well, if you really want to split hairs, the smallest nozzle at many diesel pumps is the DEF nozzle ;)

I've filled up from Northern Montana to New Mexico all the way to California, I also have to wavian Jerry cans with a black nozzle. I've never come across a place I haven't been able to fill up at. My wavian nozzles got perfectly and I can drop 10 gallons in less than 10 minutes.
As far as how much fuel. To the top!

Today I pulled up to the pump shortly after low fuel light came on. Ran the pump on the slowest setting with the trigger tab locked. Pump clicked off at 17.1 gal, waited 60 sec, then pumped it as slowly as possible by hand. Got quite a bit more fuel in there, but couldn’t see it and overfilled onto the ground. When I stopped the pump, meter showed 19.3 gal. In the future, after the pump clicks off I figure I could wait 60 sec and probably fill about 2 more gals. Or I could just remove the thing where I could see the fuel before it overflows 🙃

Those last two bars on the fuel gauge go away faster than the rest. I've only ran mine to the warning light 3 times in 45k miles, it ended up taking high 17 to mid 18 gallons. I typically do 2 clicks at the pump unless it's blowing back(been there, don't that, got the T-shirt, it sucks, face full of diesel is not a good time). I didn't seem to get a funnel either, maybe they needed chips to make them, I ordered my gladiator in the middle of the chip shortage, I lucked out and got it in 7 weeks instead of the 7 months the sales guy figured.

This really depends on the pump. If the pump is already slower even at fully open, then waiting 60 seconds and pumping the rest really slowly works fine, but some pumps are too high flow and cause a ton of foam and can't be pumped slow enough. The one nearest my house has zero chill. No matter how light you are on the handle it's full blast.

And yes, removing the restrictor helps a lot to see the fuel as it creeps up the tube.
