Haha, I'm just in the planning stages right now. I expect this to be a next-year thing if there aren't any blockers. I'm about to drop 10k+ on replacing my entire suspension/steering first and a few other essential mods before I start working on the overland part of the build.

I have no idea how this will impact my vehicle insurance/registration so need to dive into that as well. If it's a big mess it may not be worth it. I'm not modifying the frame in any way just the cab.. so I'm not quite sure. I don't think this will have any impact on my registration portion, as the vehicle registration only mentions the body type being a pickup and the color, 2 axles, etc. The insurance portion I plan on reaching out to my broker once I get a rough cost of the conversion.
Not acceptable. I already have my reciprocating saw in hand heading to your place.

It would be neat if Jeep only made 400 regular cab long bed Gladiators each year. The low production number would be enticing to the enthusiast. However, production would be high enough for Jeep to justify going through the engineering and SAE J2807 certification. Over a course of 4 years, that would be 1,600 regular cabs made.

Agreed. I'm sure there are enough people that would buy them.

I think Jeep would sell the regular cab long bed like hot cakes. With a higher towing capacity and payload, it would be the perfect utilitarian mid-sized truck.

I've been looking for a regular cab long bed Ram EcoDiesel. Those were very low production numbers. The used ones nearly sell for the same price as a higher trim level crew cab. There are enough folks like me who would rather have a regular cab than a quad or crew cab.

For sure, exploring all avenues to help reduce weight in the build in the end. Removing the bed saves a ton but only works if you're going the camper route lol.

Damn I love the look of that!

Me, too. I hope to own one eventually. They are hard to find.

I was actually in the process of buying the one pictured, but the dealer had just changed management and they would no longer let me buy the truck via internet/phone/mail. I had to come in person, which I didn't have time to do. That would require me driving 2 hours to Albuquerque, then flying to Portland, Oregon, then spend one day getting to the dealer and doing paperwork, then spend two additional days driving it 1,300 miles back home.

Update!

I just finished speaking with GR8TOPS, the guys who did the original JKU truck conversion. They're already working on a JT 2-Door Conversion kit and it's almost finished. If it's priced similar to their JKU kit... it'll be around 5500 USD. They did mention they are working on a JLU conversion as well.

If it's priced reasonably, I'll be getting it done later this year/early next year as long as it doesn't cause any issues with my insurance/registration. Just need to figure out a temporary bed situation as running pure chassis will likely get me in some trouble.

I had the last regular cab, 8ft bed Power Wagon. 2008 was the last year for them. If you had one with the manual. That was even rarer.

Man that's nice! I absolutely love the single cab look.

If Ram would have made the regular cab, 6ft short bed Power Wagon. I would have been all over it. They had a 4 Gen concept on 40's.

Here's my frame mounted camper on my JLU.
It's actually bonded to the forward cab, so it's not separate.

I took it to 12 countries on three continents, it was great.

My box is 6 feet wide and 7.5 feet long. If you did a 2 door Gladiator you should be able to add a foot or two on the length.

Full build of my Jeep is here if you want to watch the whole process:

I’ve dreamed of a 2 door Jeep truck since I saw the LJ Brute kit years ago!!!! Gladiator was the closest I’ve gotten to it. In a few years (after we empty the nest) maybe I’ll look into going this route. I want the full bed though. Not bobbed just full on bed with the added length of the second half of the Gladiator cab.

Glad to see you are still around here on occasions.

When I was ready to do a Brute kit they had dropped them from manufacturing. I had been thinking about one and planning to, got deployed. When I finished the deployment I was trying to find one available, sold out and not making more. Not a chance I was going to chop my LJ up though. One of less than 9000 built. :like:
