Then I went after the hose re-routing and securing all the various lines, hoses, and cables.

I'm getting perilously close now. Just a couple more hoses, modifying the grill, popping back in the ECM, programming, and firing it up.

I tossed the Ripp-specified line routing and came up with something that is better and more organized. I had to move those heater hoses because I will need room to fab up something to connect the supercharger to the existing air box. I always planned to do that so that I can keep it a true cold air system and utilize the snorkel.

That did the trick, sort of. I had to cut off even more of the snout, and even with that, it's still touching the radiator hose. This will have to work for now, but I think I'll call Ripp to see if they can one-off a special pipe for me with the mounting flange rotated 20 degrees counterclockwise. I'll mount a brand-new BOV on that, or I'll have to weld one up myself.

If the housing is all aluminum remove the plugger by disassembling the BOV cut it in half and weld it back at a turned angle.

That is an option, but before I do that, I want to see if Ripp can manufacture a one-off.

I've been thinkin'

I'm going to call Ripp and discuss the modification I performed: installing the larger radiator.

If the standard JT cooling system is already strained under hot conditions, the supercharger would undoubtedly create additional thermal load. That could cause overheating and possibly retard the timing due to the heated intake air causing preignition. That would negate the performance increase we paid for in the first place.

Therefore, the perfect fix for all this is, first, a larger radiator that carries about 1/3 more coolant, which increases the system's thermal capacity, and second, better fan management.
This is an additional step which I have not talked about yet, but there is a very efficient fan speed controller available, which I may employ following some real-world driving/testing.

This whole excursion into supercharging has kindled an interest in seeing just what I can do with the Pentastar. Blame Bill, the cat man for starting me thinking about the Pentastar... Having a lot of experience building boosted V6 engines (Buick GN's, 2-ea. One of which put down 1027 hP!). I am experimenting with an idea here. What if the warrant officer built a forged bottom end, ported the heads using studs, and everything else known to man, and boosted the pressure deep into the teens with water/alcohol injection? Then bolt in an 8HP75 transmission. I'd have 700+ HP and reliability. Of course, this is just mental gymnastics at the moment, and all I really want is enough power to motor on down the highway...But what if???

Nope...I gave that up many moons ago. Once, I woke up hugging a manhole cover in AnGin-Ri, Korea. My head was spinning and I had no idea how I got there, where my car was or anything. A bunch of little people were standing around looking at me. Not an experience I want to repeat. All this after a promotion party that ended up with the MPs arresting some of us, broken things, and me having spent every cent I had.
Nope, I don't drink anymore!

Now I can understand why a shop charges so much for this install!

IF forged pistons, rods and crank plus head studs were available off the shelf I would use them at a rebuild. IF RIPP offers smaller charger pullies then fuel and a tune would be the next hurdles, easily solved, A boost referenced Methanol injection kit could be installed now if you have room for the tank and would be a great addition, check Snow Performance,

No kidding!

But my installation is unique and, hopefully, better than a stock install.

Today we will look at the next issue...

It begs the simple question about life itself. Life seems to be an endless series of issues, good and bad. Getting through it involves simply solving the problem, then moving on to the next one!

And speaking of problems, here's the next one. The air cleaner box will no longer fit because the intercooler hose occupies part of the space the plastic box used to occupy.

The first part of solving this issue was to notch the intercooler to supercharger elbow to allow me to shove it on an additional 3/4". Yes, we are playing with things being that close!

Then push the hot-side pipe toward the radiator.

Then I had to section a small piece from the bottom of the air box to clear the IC pipe.

It would bolt right up at this point, but would render the snorkel system useless. I scuffed up the inside, covered it with aluminum tape, and fashioned a patch on the inside from fiberglass mat and resin.
