If things had been different here, and the Rudolph room cleared up and the bed cleaned off - we'd have had you stay here............

That’s as welcoming as it gets. Same on this end. You’ve both got a place to stay in CO.

I'd bet the hobo and I did more chatting than work while he was here. Give us a few brews and we'd have all of the world problems solved and some new-fangled Jeep accessory invented. It was interesting meeting my long-lost brother.
If I end up the right areas I plan to bend yours and Dan's ears at some point.

I was gonna say, I remember reading about Tread Lightly in magazines, like Four Wheeler, back in the 80s.
When I lived in AZ for a while, SOME people still live by this when off-roading. If you drive/ride with this mentality, you leave minimal trace you were ever there. Probably why I got away with riding my 450 in as many places as I did, even IF they said you shouldn't be there. Keep it quiet, polite, and leave no trace.

And do I sense a nationwide JT meet being planned?

MGD and MGD Lite, are almost surely to give me a headache the next day. Isn't for over abundance either. Just 1 or 2 will do it.

I prefer bourbon, but my wife will get into it also. But if I have scotch, she stays out of it. So there is that.
For some reason bourbon gives me a killer hangover. But scotch gives me STRENGTH.
Has to do with the ingredients/fermenting and your undiagnosed food sensitivities and/or allergies. I have a buddy who gets raging headaches from Mac & Jack African Amber - only beer he's found that he has a bad reaction to. In case of beer, it's usually a certain type of hops, and more than likely the fertilizer/pesticides used on the hops.

My sister and I both get headaches with Cab Sav wines (too much tannins) but can drink anything else no problem. My wife is allergic to agave. Luckily she swore off tequila at a young age, but then some genius decided to market agave sugar/syrup as a sweetener and people think it's not something that needs to be disclosed when they make a smoothie that's "sugar free." She also has a big food sensitivity to corn, so we have to look for wheat whiskey/rye and wheat or potato vodka.

potato vodka.
Trust me, it's not undiagnosed. Not saying I don't have allergies or food sensitivities. They're definitely not undiagnosed.
I've been seeing a specialist for decades. Switched to a new Doc about 5 years ago. Her and her two assistants said I had the gnarliest reaction to SPT they had ever seen.
My MIL face turns rosey from traditional vodkas, potato doesn't.

Ah. I naturally assumed. ;) Wife is likely similar. It's like, what *can* you eat? Oh, potatoes, fruits, berries. And meat. And a couple veggies. Everything else will trigger a reaction. The bad foods (known allergies and bad reactive) - agave, cashews, shellfish, corn, eggs, raw tomatoes. The not-bad, but not great foods - dairy, nightshades, oats.

I have a friend who is even more restrictive and has a severe nut allergy.

Then there's singer Billie Ellish, who chooses to be vegan, yet has some ailment as well, so she claims she basically eats french fries. <dubious stare>

But anywhoo... about those jackwagons on the trail... The topic at hand... or was at hand.

I’m no better than anyone. I was seeing red. How I handled it was better than they deserved. Again, in my opinion. They were drinking and looking for a fight. Screw that noise.
Dan, that's the dushbaggery is why I don't belong in any Jeep clubs or off-roading clubs anymore. Or go out with anyone really, that B.S. lead to me getting my 300 Polaris 4 wheeler years ago. Small enough I could physically recover it myself. If I broke it down I can trailer it home. On more then a few times I gave my personal opinion and I spent good money for my winch to use it. A funny point that most of the ones in the Jeep club I was in then had a certain brand of winch and always talking s### about how great it is to find out the Ramsey on mine was the only functional one other that one CJ with a 8274 but broke cable. In part why I'm against snatch straps or ropes in most cases. Much of the same stupid s### in 4 wheeler and side by sides groups too. With the hammer it to junk put the repairs on C.C. ect ect. The way many people are the less I want to be around most. With the YouTube Twitter ect the worst it seems to get. Trust fund way of doing anything now. Keeping up with the Jones and out spending them in almost everything now.
One other point is alcohol is or was involved most of the time also. Same with many of the assclowns I negatively crossed with scuba diving, and why I've been solo diving since early 2000's.

Wow. Diving is definitely not a place you want to get stuck with someone you don’t trust. Much scarier than wheeling. What it comes down to for me, is wanting to be “allowed” to figure out my line, and if it doesn’t work, use my gear to figure out how to make it work without damage. I’m not a fan of being told what to do, as if I’m an employee. I used to think it was just me. Clearly from the responses it’s not. I feel like trail guides on organized things like jamborees can forget that people might just be there for the socializing. They aren’t there because they’re crappy inexperienced drivers that need to be told “the line” on every obstacle. Maybe it’s my personality. I don’t like having “a boss”. That’s why I started my business 17 years ago. I want to figure it out myself without being judged or yelled at. If it works. Great. If not, that’s fine, but it’s on me. And I want to be able to take the time I want. I don’t want to be rushed by the group’s timetable. Makes it less fun in my opinion.

I don’t want to make it sound like my way is right. My way is just “right” for ME.

Most intellectual people are that way. They are critical thinkers, independent thinkers, and problem solvers. I have master's degree in education and licensed as a gifted and talented educator. I've spent most of my career working at a college campus with high school students who are working on their degrees. They are just like you, lol.

I’m quite sure I don’t belong in that illustrious group. I can think through angles and sometimes see where tires should be, but I’m certainly not a school person. Never worked for me very well. Or I never worked well in that situation. But it definitely sounds like I’d have preferred that you be spotting me.

My best years, although the least income, were my farm years. I was my boss. I figured everything out - had to, but preferred it that way. You had to plan, repair, move to plan B or C should A fail, be ready for anything.
I got a nice letter from the local bank when I sold out and moved - they said I was one of their only customers to actually have an INCREASE in net worth during that time. It was the 1980s - many went bust, sold out, farm auctions every weekend..........
I fed out pigs for a neighbor who ran out of space and wanted to expand. He bought the pigs, I fed them out and then he sold them and I got a percentage based on death numbers, feed efficiency and more factors. My death loss was so low and the feed efficiency so high at one point he said I was killing him with my numbers. I made much, he made little he ended up paying me so much.

When I worked for others, especially the state - I got my boss to trust me so much he pretty much just let me do my thing as long as goals were met. I exceeded those goals and had so much better up times with the remote offices even those offices were commenting to the administrator after Bernie retired and I took over as admin. I pretty much re-wrote all of his Cisco ASA scripts. The boss had no idea I was doing this so it was a real shock and impact to suddenly start getting comments on how well things were suddenly working.

Similar at CCC - that was quite a story (and sadly, ended up getting my boss fired and me put in charge of network connectivity)

I ran my own shop at age 16 - still have the newspaper article about it.

I'm typically a better worker when going independently. I DO have to watch it with the ADHD, though - distractions are killer - rabbit holes surround us. Notes, reminders, alarms, Alexa is a big help - Alexa, remind me to get those contract cancellation letters out today.

Don't be fooled. A lot of intellectual people are not very academic. For example, I underperformed so much in 2nd grade that I was referred for Special Education testing. Long story short, I scored in the 97th percentile for intelligence. Obviously, there was a discrepancy. My intelligence was at or near the gifted range, but I was underperforming. The school and my parents decided to hold me back, which meant I got to repeat 2nd grade.

The school psychologist reviewed the test results with my parents. During the test, the psychologist asked me to name the 4 seasons of the year. Without hesitation, I said, "deer, turkey, quail, and pheasant", lol. Even though that wasn't the answer they were looking for, I actually got bonus points for giving a creative answer.
Ironically, the 97th percentile corresponds to an IQ of 128-130. When I was in graduate school, I took a few IQ tests and scored in the 129 - 131 range.

Now that I have studied intelligence, education, sociology and psychology, I can tell you that school doesn't interest a lot of children, especially males. When I was in 2nd grade, I was helping my Grandad (on my mom's side) and my Grandpa (on my dad's side) with farm work. Going to school to cut and paste shapes wasn't something I was interested in, especially when I was already doing more complex tasks on the farm (helping change oil on the tractor, working on equipment, gardening, planting, milking, feeding animals, shucking corn, hauling firewood, etc.). My real education was working on the farm, not so much from the classroom.

I will leave you with this quote:

"By preventing a free market in education, a handful of social engineers – backed by the industries that profit from compulsory schooling: teacher colleges, textbook publishers, materials suppliers, et al. – has ensured that most of our children will not have an education, even though they may be thoroughly schooled." -John Taylor Gatto (New York City Teacher of the Year on three occasions)
