Hello Peeps!

Ok. not sure what to call these extended bumper flare things located on the SPORT Models only. just above the ends of the front bumper that connect to the front fender flares.

can someone tell me if they have REMOVED THEM? I read somewhere that someone removed them but the FOG LIGHTS and WIRES were now exposed! is this true? is there a cover up to be done to not see the exposed wires/lights?

thanks in advance.

Check the JL forums. I cut mine off. You have to remove the lower air dam and then remove the 6 or 7 screws holding those bumper extensions on. Once they are off you can’t take a utility knife and cut out the part that covers up fog lights and bolt it back on. I chose to take a dremel to them and knock off any sharp, uneven edges. Pretty easy just take your time. I don’t have any close up pictures.

FYI, they are officially called "closure panels" and they have a list price of about $30.45 each, though you can buy them online for less. So, if you do surgery on them and screw up, you could replace them pretty easily.

And, yes it's true that they cover the fog lamps and wiring so you don't want to just remove them altogether. You need something there to protect the lights.

The Sahara/Overland uses closure panels that don't have the aero peices sticking out of the top and bottom of the bumper. I wonder if those would just bolt onto a Sport bumper?

I removed mine both on my JL and my JT. - Then I use a dremel to cut off the excess (thereby using the remaining part of the panel to cover the lights.

I do know the Rubicon closure panels do not fit. Not sure about the Overland/Sahara. I just cut mine per the above post.

I imagine on the Rubicon it might promote wheel rub with larger tires. I examined these when I went to go look at the gladiators (and JLs) in person, and they reduce how much clearance is available in the front wheel well. So it's a tradeoff between better airflow (less wind resistance) and having more space for big knobby tires.

Do you have a link for these? Might need more when I mess mine up.

Yes and I am finding out the hard way they work. Took all this stuff off of mine including the scoop under the bumper to install an aftermarket bumper and the change in aero has destroyed my gas mileage.
