Another note there seems to be some articles and post that made me believe that there wouldn't be hill stay assist. I've only done some small testing and I have noticed that the brakes do hold for a few seconds on inclines. I'm not sure at what extent. I park on a slight incline at home and on the Silverado it would activate the hill start. Parking in the same spot and the truck in gear clutch pedal down and foot on the brake release the brake and the truck holds a few seconds and then rolls. I believe that the brake lights remain on. I'm not positive but I think I seen them still on in the mirror while dark.

So I’m at my local dealership since it is next door to where my daughter’s car is being serviced and on the lot is the Gladiator that got ordered for me on 4/22 minus the MT. I’m going to test drive it I think.

Thank you for your patience as I have found your vehicle. At this time there is not an ETA on your vehicle. I have found a status under your vehicle at this time your status is as following: All of the materials needed to start the build process have been received. The vehicle should be entering the build process very soon. Please be advised you can be in this status up to 30 days I would advise checking back next week to see if an update has been made.

Beautiful. Granite, Manual, and half topless! How lucky can one guy be?
Phenomenally lucky, in my book. I ended up being like a bunch of folks in here who got the "it's in KZ, hasn't been put on a train yet" from chat one day and literally getting a call the next day from the dealer saying it had arrived. It's so much earlier than I expected that I'm actually kind of scrambling to get my existing lease sorted and turned in.

First impressions have all been excellent, with the lone exception that apparently someone from Jeep had popped the hood at some point and forgot to re-latch it on one side which made for an interesting experience in the breakdown lane. But I didn't die, and it was easily fixed and I was on my way.

I haven't had much time to play with the truck yet, but a few quick reactions:
  • The transmission is smooth, almost too smooth as I stalled twice over the course of the day. The throws are short and the clutch is soft; it's much more like my old Volvo S40 than my Tacoma.
  • I've only driven JL's a handful of times, so I can't compare them with any authority, but the ride quality of the JT is nice. It's still a truck, obviously, but it tracks well, has a manageable level of play in the steering and is steady.
  • The Freedom tops are absurdly easy to remove; it took me under a minute the first time. When you put them back on, FYI, you have to start with the driver's side and fit it first.
  • Speaking of the tops, the bag that they provide to store them is handy. It's padded just enough and separates the two sections that you can pop the entire thing in the bed and drive around.
  • The back seat is roomier than I expected; it's not enormous, but you can fit actual adults back there even with the seats back.
  • The bed is a tiny bit shallower than I expected; not a concern in my case, but depending on what you need it for is worth checking out.
  • Android Auto is surprisingly useful and easy to set up (I just plugged it in). Maybe it's coming from a Tacoma where Toyota still tries to design its own interface, but the touch screen - I got the 7" - was easy and relatively latency-free (I did pick Pandora by accident once today).
  • I was initially a bit surprised that they didn't have on-steering-wheel volume/track controls for the audio, only to discover that they're conveniently located under your fingertips on the back of the wheel.
  • I haven't had time to paw through the audio settings yet, but the base is jacked up high enough on mine that I initially thought I had a mechanical issue like another poster until I figured out the pulsing by my feet started and stopped with music.
All in all, it's been great. Even with just the front roof removed, it's an experience. My wife loved it so much we ended up taking our daughter for a drive after dinner. Even better, the truck arrived just in time for vacation next week.

My favorite part of having it so far, however, was in the parking lot of the local grocery store. Random guy comes out walking out with a bag of groceries, looks at the truck, stops, looks up at me, and asks (with no other context or introduction): "is it awesome?" After I confessed that it was, he said he'd been waiting since he first heard the rumors years ago. Then he nodded once, and walked off.

Crossing my fingers for all of you still waiting that yours shows up ahead of schedule like mine.

FCA chat this morning, still in "D", Saturday will be 45 days. Still not the longest by a far shot, but i'll tell you, when i see on FB guys getting autos in less than a month from ordering, its discouraging.
