Anyone know where in the driveline this part is located. My build date is 5/19 and when checking it shows not to be on the recall list. but my concern is I've notice a shutter at low speeds with the automatic transmission. Only 250 miles on it so far

I wonder if they narrowed it down to a specific employee that wasn't applying the grease properly and therefore they were able to eliminate 95% of the JTs built.
"God damn it Jared, how many times have I told you to grease the shaft, it won't slide well if it's dry........."

This isn't even close to accurate.
Oh really?

"The suspect population was determined by reviewing the supplier's driveshaft production records from the beginning of production of this driveshaft to identify which driveshafts may have been assembled without grease. Driveshaft traceabilty records were then linked to vehicle production records to determine the suspect vehicle population."

Am I being hyperbolic? Of course I am, you don't need a green card to work in a Mexican manufacturing plant, and they don't pay anything close to $8 an hour.

Auto manufacturers build only a tiny percentage of the components that they assemble into a finished vehicle and those are typically limited to critical components, and those that provide an acceptable ROI. Sub assemblys like we are talking about here are almost exclusively provided by third party vendor/suppliers and contracts are let for those assemblies based on cost and quality acceptance. Order enough. open and install enough OEM parts and you will discover that the overwhelming percentage of these parts are sourced in Mexico and/or Canada.

Looks like Dana, Auburn Hills Michigan is the plant, here is a list of Dana North America facilities : http://www.dana.com/corporate-pages/careers/locations/northamerica

And here is indeed.com employee reviews of the location https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Dana-Incorporated/reviews?fcountry=US&floc=Auburn+Hills,+MI

The rear driveshaft goes from the transfer case to the rear differential. Likely hard to see if there is or isn’t grease in it though without pulling it apart at the joints.

From Autoblog.com (and several others):

"The NHTSA predicts that only 5% of the affected trucks experienced issues, but FCA isn’t taking any chances and is offering a free replacement of the entire rear driveshaft at no cost to the customer. So far, six warranty claims have been filed but there are no reports of failures, accidents, or injuries from the recall."

So, if I'm reading this correctly... out of a total of 3,427 Gladiators being recalled, if only 5% are affected that's roughly 171 Gladiators that will actually need the driveshaft replaced under this recall.

Since my Gladiator is part of this recall, I wonder if my dealer can inspect it now to determine if the driveshaft is indeed defective BEFORE and regardless of FCA having the repair parts available? If it is determined to need replacement, I may elect to not drive it until the parts are available and my Gladiator is repaired. @JeepCares
Sounds to me like 3,427 are affected, but only 5% of those have reported having the symptoms so far. The info has been confusing.

I’m I’m the same boat. My VIN doesn’t show up in the recall list. My build date is 6/19 and I’ve noticed a shudder at low speeds as well. Also makes a thud sometimes shifting out of park.

Yeah, I just saw today that it was on the supplier side. Still, the trucks are completely assembled here in the U.S. by skilled workers that get paid well which you said was not the case.

Whew...I think I dodged the bullet thanks to the delay associated with the steel bumper. My VIN shows no recall and the door tag states 7-19 for the build date. It was ordered in April with the grease option.

My build date is 5/19. VIN # doesn't come up with a recall. 3750 miles and no issues so far.

So my door jam sticker says MFR built 5/19. The MDH is 051110 505AA. What is the month, day, hour decipher?

Dang, mine was built June 21 at 10AM... but not on the recall list (yet). Hope it stays that way!
