I have both a CB (I know, pretty obsolete) and GMRS mounted in the cab, This video shows how I did the GMRS and antenna, I do have a HH HAM radio as well.

Would this antenna location work for my dual band HAM antenna? I like that location better than the fender mount.

If I am seeing your instillation correctly it looks like you looped your antenna cable around the base. By doing this you can create a choke and hurt your system performance. It would be better to make long strips avoiding crossing the cable.

I'd really like to see if and how you hard wired this for power as well. I'm getting mine this week.
I like this clean install.

I'm wondering if the one in this thread fits with the hard top

I doubt many people worry about this given the infrequent nature of communications but according to my Midland manual the antenna needs to be at least 24 in from your body.

Hmmm, the only problem with that would be, almost all of the GMRS antennas are magnetic, meaning, the antenna is using the vehicle as the ground plane to work correctly, and this is a must. Being a HAM guy & a Commo guy in the military, I have studied antenna theory quite a lot. I can also say that line of site with my 5 watt midland is over 20 miles "line of site". And for some reason, individuals on the receiving end have said my carrier and modulation increase when I have my top on, which is opposite of what I thought would happen. The antenna is currently the highest point on my vehicle, when the top is down. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Oddly I have the tiny midland antenna til a better one arrives. I was easily pulling weather band this morning in the canyon and I have intermittent Sirius reception in there. Forget cell phone.

I just got my Midland and I’m thinking I may try the ghost antenna with this bracket. I’m figuring I can install it next to the hinge of the hood and just make sure to remove the antenna when I need engine access.

I have a couple of the 15 watt Micro mobiles, I just didn't have the room to install the 15 watt radio where I wanted it to be in my JT. I use one 15 watt as a base, and one in my travel trailer. Both great radios, but I'm stuck with the 5 watt in my JT due to the space thing. Honestly tho, it works perfect when jeeping with others, and with in 5 to 10 miles of rough terrain with camp.

and you are absolutely correct. It works tho, but I may change it in the future.

I had the insight to order the "Aux Switch" group. So I ran the power wire from under the glove box, passenger side, where all the power wires from the Aux switch group terminate (one of 2 locations anyway) I ran a self taping screw with the ground wire close to the radio on top the tower/roll bar.
