Here, you get the initial registration plus one year for new cars. After that, gas and diesel vehicles have to pass a yearly smog test. Used cars have to pass a smog test to get registered, and then yearly until they are twenty years old and can be registered as a Classic.

I have a solution for you and anyone else that has yet to register their gladiator

Do you have a legal option? The only real hassle is the $20 test and the time it takes to do it. The registration can be done online, and the cost is based on the value of the vehicle, as determined by the state.

then go away stop posting in reply, you need more manners
I made a clear explanation and nicely asked you to respect what is desired here. I was raised with manners and respect for others. Your postings appear to indicate that you were not.

Why should I go away when I am not the one making the postings that are not welcome here?

Let's be fair, the same standards apply for gas engines as far as smog tests. Don't make it sound like diesel is at a disadvantage using lack of proper comparison just to make your point look valid.
The standards are different, i own enough diesel and gas cars to know, i do not have to validate anything. If this is a non issue then good.

Standards as far as testing intervals. What is being tested for is different yes. My point was diesels do not require more frequent testing, so the testing cycle is the same. I can see how my post was not clear and could lead to misinterpretation.

This is just my opinion after having my Gladiator for 6000 miles now. I would go Diesel (I’ll actually be trading to a Diesel in about 2 years). I’ve been looking at all the places we’ve been to and they all had diesel available. When towing around 5000lbs the diesel torque will be much better to handle the mountains we have in SOCAL. Also fuel consumption will be much better (forgetting the estimated additional $5k this engine option will cost.) I’m from Australia so we love our Diesels lol.

Unless I was using it solely for towing, it wouldn't be worth it for my type commuting I do with the regen they do to diesels today!
Actually the diesel will be rated for LESS towing than the 3.6! cooling issue.

Too many $$ factors with the diesel.

BIGGEST one being it WILL NOT tow or be rated to tow as much as the 3.6. Cooling issues.
It WILL NOT be a CUMMINGS diesel it will be an Italian FIAT diesel and Italians are NOT KNOWN for making good diesels.
Diesel fuel is more expensive.
DEF fluid annoyance and expense.
Higher maintenance cost for repairs.
Not to mention the ADDED COST of the already inflated sticker price to have the diesel as an option.

Most people want the diesel so they can say they have a diesel. Unless you're going to be billy goating your truck up mountains in colorado or the like, then why?

There are tons of threads on here explaining why the EcoDiesel is a horrible investment. But to recap:

Pros:

-TORQUE. Torque all over the map. Loads of torque.

Cons:

-Everything else. Estimated $5k upfront to get one. Then $1k annually over the gas engine just to own and operate one. Then parts and repairs are exponentially more expensive. The emissions controls will prevent the engine from ever seeing high odometer readings. The press-fit cam gears that killed all those Gen 2 engines are still being used in Gen 3. There are new unproven parts like dual-EGR system, coated cylinders, lightweighted pistons, etc. that have been deadly to competitors' engines. Diesel fuel is $0.40/gallon more expensive on average according to AAA. Diesel fuel is only available at 55% of U.S. stations according to AAA. It's all just a pain in the ***.

At the end of the day, it's a gamble. If you've got a fat checking account and you just love the feel of that torque, then by all means go diesel. I had two diesel Jeeps and loved them, but eventually both of them found new homes because parts were $$$$ and guys I knew were dropping $7,000 on top-end repairs. Screw that.
Im reading this and it clicked... are you OFFRD from YouTube? Damn near the same statements mentioned as in the video, from Kentucky... things are adding up. If so, thanks for keeping my gladiator motivation going these past couple months. Just ordered the JTR Gator 6spd.

Last post was from 2019, so looking for newer reviews. I'm looking getting a JT '23 or when teh refresh ever comes in '24. I've had 2 JKU with 35's at 3.73 gears, not towing but closer to or over Gross Weight when out on trips in Colorado/Utah. The 3.6 Penstar was always "bogged down" on I-70 in the Colorado mountain passes, off road not than many uses, but at low speed wit the fan would always be running and the engine was hot. I've never owned a desire, but like the higher torque.
Just looking for advice on the diesel vs 3.6L gas

Diesel is not confirmed for 2024 and there's currently a stop sale for any new diesels so your current option is used diesel or a 3.6.

The diesel engine is also significantly heavier, so if you're loading a lot of gear onto the truck you'll have more payload capacity in a 3.6. You also will have less problems of suspension bottoming out on a 3.6.

^This. The current state of diesel emissions is abysmal. I could only imagine being stuck in a 5 mph derate a hundred miles from anywhere because it didn’t see highway speed to regen or the DEF crystallized in the lines or doser.
Just throw the stuff in the trash and tune it. Makes 320HP and 550TQ to the wheels.

you don’t haveto stick with the government mandated garbage. This country was built on revolution and rebellion.
