On base everything is mandatory.
That's the only reason I wear a jacket and not a vest. A lot of the S.F. guys don't care but you get 1 out of 10 guys who will bust your balls for not having sleeves on. Full disclosure I definitely ride with all the gear all the time. But I just feel like driving without a seatbelt is no less dangerous than riding a motorcycle.

I could see it beneficial to turn off when we’re at the race track. We drive around Road Atlanta all the time and never wear our seat belts (this is of course running around the field, not actually on the track!). You effectively drive at parking lot speeds and are just trying to get from one viewing point to another. We usually just click in the seatbelt and then leave it clicked in for the day to sit on top of it. Outside of that, seatbelt on 100% of the time.

I have to imagine these beeps were made mandatory by some insurance lobbyists.

Seems like I read about a rollover/ejection/fatality around here every week or two. Often others in the car who were strapped in walk away unharmed. People don't realize that without seat belts, one is more prone to roll-over at speed. For whatever reason when a driver has to swerve at high-speed, the lateral Gs can start him sliding out of his seat. Because of that, he then unintentionally yanks the wheel abruptly back the opposite direction and the truck rolls.

Happened to a friend's son a year ago. The loss has changed him immensely; he's like a different person ever since, sad and depressed.

That said, I personally don't need the chime -- my belt goes on whenever I head out at speed. But there are times when I'm slowly off-roading and there's really no chance of any kind of accident. And if we're often stopping and getting out, then the belt stays off and, yes, that chime is irritating So, I'll be checking into that procedure to disable the chime, IF I can turn it back on later (mainly to warn me if others in the truck don't have their belts on.)

So does the same procedure turn the belt chime back on?

Yes. I turned mine off when I got my JL, and turned it back on when I traded for the JT. And if you’re wondering, I wear my belt all the time, except when I drive down to the mailbox. Got a really long driveway. I was wearing a seat belt before the law said I had to. I had an old truck and went around a sharp curve, and my butt slid out from under me. Started wearing one after that!!

The government trying to save me from myself. I ride my Softail every single day to work 6 months of the year. From April through October it's how I get around. Snow rain wind etc will not stop me. Legally the only requirement for me to ride my Harley down the road at 65mph in the state of Alaska is a loin cloth. I cannot be sexually exposed. That's it. So you're going to tell me sitting in a car completely enveloped in steel is somehow less safe than me 2 wheeling with my loin cloth down the highway? I'm the same person whether I'm on the bike or in the car nothing has changed but I have to abide by different rules based on what vehicle I chose? It's ridiculous. My JK stops beeping after driving a mile without stopping. If you stop the distance counter resets. I'm hoping the JT is the same because I don't wear seatbelts ever.

No to helmet laws. No to seat belt laws.
Just make a law that anyone killed while not using a these becomes a mandatory organ donor.
There is a great shortage of organs for transplant and people are dying while waiting for one.

You can thank the motorcycle lobby for that. They tried to make it mandatory at the Federal level or States wouldn't receive any money for roads.
Motorcycle lobby stepped up and said "Freedom of Choice" and the Feds backed off.
Individual States still mandated it, some put in a minimum insurance coverage to open a loophole.
Cage drivers (cars & trucks) for the most part rolled over and said "Baaaaaaaa".

Now, I am in a State that does NOT require a helmet if you are over 18, but I wear my helmet 100% of the time knowing that most of the time it's just going to grant me an open casket.

Now, I also wear my seatbelt 100% of the time, but thank you for showing how to turn that obnoxious warning chime off.

Easy-Peazy.......Just plug in a short seatbelt extender. It will add about 4 inches to the seat-end buckle, but it will stop BOTH the beeping AND the dash light reminder. You can still buckle your belt without any additional actions or thoughts, but if you don't want it buckled, for some reason, you aren't accosted by annoying sights and sounds.

PS...I LOVE Trippin01's little tool, but it requires an extra step to get the belt buckled when you actually want it buckled.

PSS....What happened to "Land of the Free....Home of the Brave"?

Used my Tazer to turn it off. Tazer also enable front add on camera, use of navigation while moving, blacks out license plate light in reverse to reduce glare, adjust speedo for tire size, change tire psi light, use lockers and sway bar in high, cool light show and more!

This this this. Are we living in the United States or North Korea? Sometimes it's hard to tell.

For the record, there is a simple procedure to disable the belt chime. Just Google it. It requires ignition on, engine off, wait for seatbelt indicator light to turn off, then buckle/unbuckle 3 times, shut ignition off.
Well, we're all wearing ineffective diapers on our faces too because we've become sheep. It won't be long now...

Also drive with doors open. However you might not get the tension across your lap that would've been there without the extender.
