I tried to adjust my box, but the factory locktite was too much and I spun the allen screw, so now can't go any further..
Unfortunately for you, but Loctite can be heated to loosen it.

I have it in writing (email) that Jeep is aware of the bad steering boxes and “they” are working on a fix/revision. For whatever thats worth.
Have you posted the letter so others can use it to motivate their dealers? If you have then just a link to it. As ShadowsPapa said - there are just too many threads going on this topic to make it easy for anyone.

Im not going to post any emails, but print this page out by any means possible and have your service manager read it.
If you have the deadzone in the steering wheel, its because there is a problem with the manufacturing process of the steering box. Even a monkey can see the amount of steering wheel play before the wheels start turning. Watch the pitman arm while someone else is turning the wheel back n forth. At first, I got the its a Jeep excuse, so I made my next appt to do the “over center check” of the steering gear. That’s when I was taken seriously, there was no need to even do the check because of how sloppy mine was/is. So the new box was ordered rite from Mopar, installed, and FML, got another bad box.
Started the lemonlaw process at that point. JeepCares got involved. I was told the issue I have with the gear box IS A KNOWN ISSUE and FCA is reworking the part. The worse news for me is that they have no ETA on the ‘reworked’ steering box. So here I sit with a truck I love but hate to drive and no clue how long until I can remove my thumb from my....

Sorry - didn’t mean to imply you should post the entire letter. Just a picture of the relevant info to show it is from FCA with any of your identifying info blocked. It’s a shame that some dealers have to be lead by the nose to do the right thing.

If all of us with bad boxes get all of the serv dept’s across the country to open star cases for this (as mine did), that mite push them to rework the boxes faster. Did you file a NHTSA complaint yet? That might help too. There were only 18 other complaints at the time I filed mine, takes 10 minutes.
I hate to say it, but maybe a few accidents due to the loss of steering we have in the deadzone is whats needed, idk.

I really feel like the more complaints they have the less likely they are going to do anything about it for current owners. The last thing they want to do is start sending out steering boxes in mass quantity. Then paying labor to get them switched out. Whether that be a revised part or the same one as all of us have that is calibrated a little tighter. The amount of slop that they consider normal will just keep getting larger and larger. Really the only good the complaints will do is make it so they are more likely to come up with a fix for production in the future, which I guess isn't a bad thing.

You say calibrated tighter, I say quality control. They do not consider the amount of play we have normal, well thats what all the dealerships say to ignore the problem. Either way, I really hope we can get good ones asap!

I've had it at the dealer 3 times and I have the loose steering box in mine and the dealer service guy says its loose but they say that they can not mess with it. This is my third Jeep and I paid $46000.00 and when someone ask me how I like the Gladiator I say I like the looks of it but I hate to drive it because of the POS steering box makes it no fun to drive. I've checked the input rotation and output rotation of the steering box and it's bad. I've been working on motorcycles and cars for41 years and rebuilt quite a few front ends and adjusted steering boxes before so I have no doubt it needs help. I've had it for 5 months and have put 890 miles on it and do not enjoy driving it and waiting for them to come up with a fix. Service guy said I could adjust the steering box myself and am very capable of doing so but it's brand new and I'm waiting on them. I hope they do something soon.

My Jeep likes my money

Well you have me beat as far as going to the dealer : I have had mine to the dealer twice for loose steering and both time i get it back and they tell me "drives as designed ".I even call other local dealers and ask if they have a fix for the loose steering and all denied that there is a problem FCA should be embarrassed on all the complaint .Mine is 6 month old and maybe 1000 miles .I want to do the lift and big tire but concerned the service department then will say i changed the factory parts.I did notice on cold days it was better so that to me tells me it the steering box .Come spring i will be back in the service department again .

I’ve got some depressing news, the rumor I was told from jeepcares is they are saying the revised box wont be out until fall. Are you fn kidding me? All I want is one of the good ones. Adjusted properly before sending out. I dont understand why this is so hard for them to do. Im telling you guys something drastic needs to happen because i dont think the rite ppl know how easy (IMO) this is to fix VS how big of a problem it really is. My service guy is doing his best to help me, but I think no matter what he asks his tech advisors (regional) he will get shot down. Im at the point where Im going to have to get very creative with this situation. Not all hope is lost YET for me.

Has anyone been able to identify the differences between a good steering box and a bad steering box?

Some people, including me, say their steering is fine. Others have a lot of slop. All of the boxescame from the factory, so what is the difference?

Its the adjustment screw not being adjusted correctly at the manufacturer
I would think it goes beyond that or FCA would have issued a TSB and procedure to readjust it.

Or would they? Maybe the guy who mention a past cover up is correct, maybe they are embarrassed, maybe the ones in charge dont even know because their guy tell them its a jeep thing. Or maybe it could be more than the one screw adjustment thats wrong like you said.

Anything is possible in relation to corporate buffoonery.
