Have you posted the letter so others can use it to motivate their dealers? If you have then just a link to it. As ShadowsPapa said - there are just too many threads going on this topic to make it easy for anyone.I have it in writing (email) that Jeep is aware of the bad steering boxes and “they” are working on a fix/revision. For whatever thats worth.
Im not going to post any emails, but print this page out by any means possible and have your service manager read it.Have you posted the letter so others can use it to motivate their dealers? Sorry - didn’t mean to imply you should post the entire letter. Just a picture of the relevant info to show it is from FCA with any of your identifying info blocked. It’s a shame that some dealers have to be lead by the nose to do the right thing.Im not going to post any emails, but print this page out by any means possible and have your service manager read it.
If you have the deadzone in the steering wheel, its because there is a problem with the manufacturing process of the steering box. Even a monkey can see the amount of steering wheel play before the wheels start turning. Watch the pitman arm while someone else is turning the wheel back n forth. At first, I got the its a Jeep excuse, so I made my next appt to do the “over center check” of the steering gear. That’s when I was taken seriously, there was no need to even do the check because of how sloppy mine was/is. So the new box was ordered rite from Mopar, installed, and FML, got another bad box.
Started the lemonlaw process at that point. JeepCares got involved. I was told the issue I have with the gear box IS A KNOWN ISSUE and FCA is reworking the part. The worse news for me is that they have no ETA on the ‘reworked’ steering box. So here I sit with a truck I love but hate to drive and no clue how long until I can remove my thumb from my....
If all of us with bad boxes get all of the serv dept’s across the country to open star cases for this (as mine did), that mite push them to rework the boxes faster. Did you file a NHTSA complaint yet? That might help too. There were only 18 other complaints at the time I filed mine, takes 10 minutes.Sorry - didn’t mean to imply you should post the entire letter. I really feel like the more complaints they have the less likely they are going to do anything about it for current owners. The last thing they want to do is start sending out steering boxes in mass quantity. Then paying labor to get them switched out. Whether that be a revised part or the same one as all of us have that is calibrated a little tighter. The amount of slop that they consider normal will just keep getting larger and larger. Really the only good the complaints will do is make it so they are more likely to come up with a fix for production in the future, which I guess isn't a bad thing. If all of us with bad boxes get all of the serv dept’s across the country to open star cases for this (as mine did), that mite push them to rework the boxes faster. I hate to say it, but maybe a few accidents due to the loss of steering we have in the deadzone is whats needed, idk.
You say calibrated tighter, I say quality control. They do not consider the amount of play we have normal, well thats what all the dealerships say to ignore the problem. Either way, I really hope we can get good ones asap!I really feel like the more complaints they have the less likely they are going to do anything about it for current owners. I would think it goes beyond that or FCA would have issued a TSB and procedure to readjust it.Its the adjustment screw not being adjusted correctly at the manufacturer
Or would they? Maybe the guy who mention a past cover up is correct, maybe they are embarrassed, maybe the ones in charge dont even know because their guy tell them its a jeep thing. Or maybe it could be more than the one screw adjustment thats wrong like you said.I would think it goes beyond that or FCA would have issued a TSB and procedure to readjust it.
Anything is possible in relation to corporate buffoonery.Or would they?
