We are extremely happy with ours, it feels like it is a lot peppier then the 17 GMC Canyon it replaced. I live in the mountains of N. Idaho and routinely travel over 11,000 ft passes with no trouble at all maintaining 65 mph.
I don't live at the same elevation as you but I was surprised at how much more responsive off the line the Gladiator is than the lighter, more powerful Canyon I traded for it. The Canyon was definitely faster but needed revved out where there's rarely a need to rev out the Jeep. The engine is also much quieter and smoother.

I’ll say it again just because I can... it’s that ZF 8-speed tranny magic at work :)

I don't mean to be a downer and rant but it will never happen. CAFE ratings have effectively killed the American V8 except in special high-performance applications where manufacturers are willing to take a small hit for nostalgia. FI engines can be made to be better in every conceivable way if built properly (e.g. properly sized turbos to give power at the right spots) and are naturally a more efficient design so you can maintain cruise MPG numbers while still giving top end kick.

There's a reason the Raptor and GT have a turbo V6 instead of a V8 in them. If FCA took a note from Ford, they'd be pushing the 2.0L turbo and not the 3.6L because these aren't performance vehicles.

It's just like the manual transmission... people may love them (myself included) but they're now inferior in nearly every way to modern automatics. People can be elitist and brag about controlling their vehicle but with all the other nanny systems you have with ABS, traction control, BLD, and now automatic braking - it's hard not to laugh.
:CWL: :CWL::LOL::CWL: Good one! I almost thought you were serious for a minute there. But I KNEW you had to be joking when you mentioned the Raptor being pussified with a V6 and the the GT having a turbo V6, as if those even THINK about holding a candle to a V8 power plant with a turbo.

I keep forgetting the world is emasculating everything that is rugged, rough, tough, and manly, like a V8 engine. It's turning everyone into a bunch of sissy-ass euro-trash pussies that think 4-bangers and V6's are acceptable and adequate powerplants in ANYTHING other than a 4-door sedan commuter car. Allow my derisive laugh to echo through the annals of history at how retarded this world is becoming DAILY.

Tell us how you really feel!
PS I agree with you!
You will learn over time, that a response like I posted above, IS me actually holding back...You don't want to see the dial cranked up to 10, that was like a 3, maybe... ;)

I’m pleased with mine. My Tritoon is one of the reasons I never got a JL, but with the Updated tow rating, I pulled that trigger on the gladiator. I would say pulls similar to my 4runner limited and not quite as good as my crewman tundra w 5.7, but that’s a no brainer to why!

Another big thing is I have a very flat boat ramp at the house, and the tritoon sits really on the trailer. I always had issues getting water in the car. The gladiator sits high enough I don’t have those issues anymore!

M/T is not elitist. It's traditionalist.
Thank you! It's nice to see someone who still has a set of nuts. Any hot rod or muscle car with a V8 should have a manual transmission behind it, unless you are handicapped, or it is strictly a drag racer. And if you don't know how to drive a manual, go buy a ricer, you shouldn't own a muscle car with a V8.

Way to miss the point.

The MT itself is traditionalist. The asshat berating anyone who doesn't own one is an elitist. That is unless you daily something with non-boosted drum brakes, manual steering boxes, and a carburetor.

Old doesn't mean better.

The same can be said about newer... Technology is advancement, unless it's misused, misinterpreted, mismanaged, or poorly designed then it's nothing more than a brand new fancy shiny technologically-advanced steaming pile of shit. The Jeep 3.8L engine, Ford/Navistar 6.0 & 6.4L diesels, early model 6.6L Duramax's, and 1998-2002 Cummins 24V engines being prime examples of "revolutionary" failures of technology. ;)

Straight up correct!

I’m currently rebuilding my 1964 Corvette coupe race car. 427 small block, TKO600 5spd, 9” Ford rear with 3.70 lsd and Wilwood disc brakes all around. What makes this a Jeep topic is that I replaced the questionable oem steering with a Borgeson power steering box that is actually a Jeep box!
