Yea. Not sure why the “family” or “touring” model would not be more highway friendly.3:73 gears, one of the reasons I passed on the overland. I wish they would offer them with 4.10 gears stock.

For sure, you would think those would be the gas friendly models. I guess the engineers at FCA put a lot of time an effort into trying to maintain MPGs while towing rather than thinking about the common family going on vacation. At least they didn't offer the 4 cylinder turbo in the JT. My buddy has a JLU with the 4 and he just put 35 x 12.5-20 tires on it and you want to talk about a dog, 3.21 gears and the 4 with 35's, that thing is a slug. I tried to tell him to find a 6 with at least 3.73 gears but he wouldn't listen. All he talked about was how quick off the line it was. Better him than me. He's getting about 13.5 MPGs out of itYea. My Overland does great on the highway, and not usually all that noisy. It does around 21mpg if I keep close to the speed limit and take it easy on the pedal. It is at stock height with factory street tires.Yea. Not sure why the “family” or “touring” model would not be more highway friendly.
I've noticed others with a JTRs posting about subpar MPGs. I wonder if it has anything to do with the bumper and the aerodynamics of how the air flows around the vehicle. Just s shot in the dark but it seems there had to be something going on there. Not much difference build wise between a Rubicon and Max tow. I haven't seen under 18 since adding the 35's that includes a few trips to the Appalachian mountains.Mine must be broken. Bone stock JTR. I can scarcely get 15 mpg out of it. Afraid if I add a lift and bigger tires I'll drop down to 12-13. Haven't been hitting the highway at all during this covid nonsense, though, and live in a very hilly town, so that might be all it is. If I saw 18 mpg I'd just about die of happiness.
Clean look. I am looking at the same bumper...what winch is that?Had about the same mileage before and after adding a Rugged Ridge Venator front bumper and 12k lb winch, getting around 15-16mpg. There was a small window that I was getting 17 city but that was during the first weeks of shutdown.
Went to the Outer Banks this weekend, had the best mileage I have ever seen. 18mpg! Of course, this was with the flat beach roads. Dunno where they get this 23mpg highway number from.
BTW if you are wondering where all the Gladiators are...they are all in the Outer Banks.
PS. Went to Corolla, NC to drive on the beach and see the wild Spanish horses. Of course, airing down and 4x4 is pretty much a requirement...this Lexus didn't know lol

I haven't even installed the skid plate yet. I have a Rubicon steel take off skid plate I was going to install if the gas mileage was hit significantly, but it's going up so I may not even put it on.Looks like your new bumper has some nice smooth air flow around the skid plate, that probably helps high speed mileage... The JT steel bumper also has a fully connected skid plate, which I also believe helps air flow, but, your new bumper looks even more aerodynamic. Nice score !
Sorry, I was looking at the Rugged Ridge Venator front bumper in this thread which was posted by noside85. That one looks pretty aerodynamic ..I haven't even installed the skid plate yet. What is the exact size of your KO2 33s? Also can you post photos of your rig?Overland with 33” ko2 and dv8 stubby bumper.
Headed to Alabama for a few days. It’ll be around an 8 hr drive. I’ll be shocked if it’s enjoyable to me lol. If i don’t like it, I’ll just take my wife’s infinite for future long hauls.
Yeah but not the Max tow. You can still only tow 4,000lbs, Max tow can tow 7650lbs and JTR can tow 7,000 lbs. Before I added the 35's and the lift I was getting 22 in mine total averageMy stock JTO is getting 21 around town, and 24 on highway. I have towing package.
Ours Sport S is completely stock and when cruising on a level highway the dash display will report 28-29 mpg. Add in a slight incline, or a head wind, and it'll drop to 20-22 mpg.Dunno where they get this 23mpg highway number from.
