2020 Rubicon Gladiator, 1980 Chevrolet Corvette, 1930 Ford Roadster Pickup, 1930 Ford Station Wagon, 1930 Ford Phaeton, and an awesome 2004 Ford E-250 (the dangerwagon)
I'm used to getting crap from other Jeep owners. I have always owned the "wrong" Jeep I've had a LJ, JKU and now the gladiator...

Maybe by being polarizing the Gladiator will become a unique vehicle like the Gremlin or Edsel

I think I did already mention this, but I did get some shade from the TJ owners when I bought my 08’ JKU Rubicon. It’s nothing new. The difference with the Gladiator is the comments from the non Jeeper general public. The first 4 door wranglers was definitely a thing back them though. Remember when you could get a 2wd 4 door. I know you could on the Sahara, and iirc on the sports too. Actually, the base might have been the X back then. Going way back in my memory bank here...

I had an old room mate that had a silver 2007 JKUX 2wd, and another buddy who had a black 2007 JKUX 4x4. Neither Jeeps impressed me (especially the 2wd one...Seriously Jeep, what were y’all smoking?). The 4x4 was a nice Jeep, just had engine problems even with a brand new 3.8 longblock., and horrible death-wobble, and shifter linkage issues (plastic pieces kept popping off).

Yeah, my 3.8l sucked. It was underpowered with the heavy 4 door Rubicon and it had piston slap when you first started it up. It was underpowered even with the 4.10 gears and 6 speed manual on stock tires. I bought it new. I had a lot of issues with that Jeep, my 6 speed manual liked to pop out of second gear too. Long story short, I bought it new with employee pricing and I got is super cheap. I drove it for a year and none of the problems were ever fixed properly and kept coming back so we worked out of buy back and I actually made money on it when I sold it after driving it for a year and 19k miles. Got more back than I paid for it new. In the end, it was the worst and best new vehicle I ever bought. Lol

I ended up replacing it with a new 2010 Xterra and I wheeled the piss of of that all over CO and I never had one issue with it in 73k hard miles. I put a battery in it and front brakes and that was it, other than oil changes and a few sets of tires.

Went to eat yesterday afternoon with some friends that had the huge smoker going and cooked up one hell of a feast... It was amazing, as expected.

But on my way, I needed to get ice for my cooler... I stopped into a random gas station on my way, and had 3 different people come up to talk about the JTR within a matter of minutes. One guy was older, said he was a former JLUR owner, said he missed his Jeep (he was driving a Prius) and regretted selling it immediately afterwards, and was interested in a JTR, but didn't know anyone who had one personally to ask about how they liked it. He was pretty nice, and talked for a good 10-15 minutes. One guy was so impressed he wanted to take a picture of it, because he'd never seen one before. Everyone else was just staring at it like a cow looking at a new gate.

I normally am not a people-person, and damn-sure don't go out of my way to talk to random folks I don't know (I'm an INFJ personality, we're kind of a weird bunch ;)). But it was nice to get so much positive attention and positive feedback about it. That's a rarity for me.

I think I may have had my first negative reaction to the JT. I was at a light and a guy in a Mercedes was stopped at the same light perpendicular to me. As I got the green light, I heard a honk and looked over to see him flipping me off lol. Normally, it’s common for someone I know to flip me off. I didn’t know this dude. Definitely wasn’t road rage, since we had no interaction up to that point. My only guess would be, he dislikes the JT. Thankfully, I had the doors off and could get full arm extension when I returned the bird.

**Update**
Sure enough, it was a co worker I didn’t recognize. He asked me if I knew it was him that flipped me off. Haha. He was in a different car and had a shirt and tie on. I don’t hang out with anyone that wears a shirt and tie. Lol.

Driving a Mercedes and being a random prick to a stranger? Sounds like he's lacking in a certain department.

The Gladiator pretty much gives a middle finger to the pick up truck crowd in my opinion. Ten or fifteen years from now it will still be cool as hell to be stuck in between the wrangler world and the normal truck world. Best of both worlds if you ask me.

Yeah, those are the douchebags that made the diesel community into a redneck/white trash joke... That shit really pissed me off when people started doing that with diesels. The whole black-smoke thing is retarded. Mine is tuned to where it uses nearly every bit of fuel it dumps, and only hazes gray for a few seconds, then it dissipates. Black smoke is unburnt fuel, which = unused horsepower (potential) from poor tuning, or idiots not knowing how to properly build/mod a diesel engine.
What is the deal with the back ends setting so low. They say look at that stance. We have several around my neighborhood with the 40's on rolling smoke with the butt end sagging down. Looks like a dog passing a peach see to me. Never understand that people.

Possibly... I haven't checked the specs on the 2020 Taco. I know my 2017 Taco Prerunner (ex cab, 4 cyl. 2wd) work-issued truck is a complete dog (and a complete POS). It has NO power at all. Won't even get out of its own way. It's so lacking in power, it's almost got me into several head-ons trying to pass people who speed up (like dickheads) when you try to pass them.
My buddy had a ranger with the 2.0 in it back in the day. He used to say its the only vehicle he ever had that you had to clean the bugs off the back window
