We need to talk about the “Jeep Wave”

As a Gladiator owner, do you want to wave at Wranglers?

It's different for women. Have you noticed how few of them make eye contact with you in stores, etc? They have to be constantly careful to keep men from thinking they are inviting you in.
If you've ever run a business and had women on staff - watch out.. We had more troubles with politics and high school-like cliques with the women - no issues with the men employees.
At stores, women cut in, men say "excuse me".
Last week I was at a store that had a pharmacy - lanes clearly marked as to this direction or that, one way this or one way that. Another fellow and I had been in line almost 5 minutes, along comes a woman in the other lane going the wrong way and jumps up to the counter as soon as the person ahead of me was done. The guys had this look like "well, that's not unexpected" shrug........ no one dared say a thing to her.
So don't expect women in Iowa to wave - they don't. I've not had any women wave, but many of the men do, and yet women drive at least 1/3 of the Jeeps here.

We have had different experiences.

Well I get that, I didnt just fall off the turnip truck

However I wonder if theyre self aware and how much they miss out on that they attribute to other reasons by tossing out the baby with the bathwater

From what I noticed this weekend it appeared most of the women jeep drivers were on their phones so likely they never even paid attention to a wave
This is closer to the truth

My wife drives a wrangler and loves all the waves

Just had a detailed and lengthy conversation with a group of men and women on this behavior. The women were surprised but came around to what we enlightened them to.

Around here, its use of the horn. The women love to beep when others arent doing what they want. They asked why men dont as much. The response was simple... when a man does this, he knows in his head that interaction may lead to more, could be words, could be someone gets mad and ends up with a punch in the mouth. Men have to do that math before they act.

Most of the time, when a woman beeps, theres little chance she will end up with a punch in the mouth, so she doesnt have to do the pre math for her actions

I picked up my JT (my first Jeep) a year ago and haven't waved much as i was not sure "how to do it" but after watching a few youtubes apparently there are lots of ways to do it, just about anything goes really, and other Jeeps feel bad when you don't wave back. So i'll try harder but i do prefer to keep my eyes on the road.

"He needed killin" is only permissible in a few states. Make sure you check your local guidelines.

Hell, not giving them what they deserved WAS anger management. ;)

Woo-saa! Woo-saa!

If they are union you have to remember to say "tested for drugs and or alcohol" so you can test for both. I do the same though. I work in a high school. Lots of "What made you think THAT was a good idea?"

I'd certainly hope so... Whole lot in-between those parameters. :CWL:

As for work, I know what you mean... I'm an inspector/on-site project manager/coordinator/liason for my company... Trust me, there's plenty of times I feel like I'm nothing more than a glorified babysitter watching the crews do work. And there's times you want to just walk up to them ask "WTF were you thinking when you thought this was a good idea??? Do I need to have you drug-tested?"

I was with a buddy and had a young 20somthing woman wave at me. I was confused and waved back. My buddy explained the wave. My dealer just handed me the keys and took my money. Didn't explain anything. I return the wave. Unless it's a Gladiator, then I will wave first.

I wave to you JT guys because I can’t tell you’re driving a Jeep boat when all I see is the front. ;)

Just kidding of course. This is highly dependant. I wave at anything that’s nicely built or on a trail. So, if you’re in a city and driving a sport on 27s... I’ll probably only wave if you you wave first.

Been waving since 03' and it ain't about getting a wave back. I'm sure I've not waved to hundreds of Jeeps that waved at me because I was playing with the radio, looking at something, or just picking my nose.
You're either an ambassador for the brand, or you dont give a shit, either way, from me, you get the ✌

When we lived in NY (upstate) most people would wave. Moving to Montana almost no one would wave. It took me 9 years but now most everyone will return a wave. In my experience the older the driver the less chance of getting a return wave.

If I see you, I wave. If I missed you, sorry. I know that I make a lot of late waves as you have passed. Too busy watching the road and other idiots around me.
After many years of hot rodding, I got the '56 back out last year and noticed the lack of waves. Really it used to be hot rods, customs, street machines, bikes, all the not quite normal waved to each other. On a trip a couple of weeks ago in the '56 I sent out probably 25 waves and only got one in return-from a vested biker.
I think that the wave has gone with the hand shake.....still important in my book.
