Interesting. I am on my fourth service visit and been requesting an engine compression test for 2 days now. So far, no cooperation.

what other tests or repair attempts were made before the engine compression problem was identified?
When the computer update to the PCM that was released in mid-July did not resolve the issue, they started doing more tests and found the compression issue. I have not seen any of the paperwork on this current visit so am not sure what else they may have done during the past month that led to the engine replacement. Also, I have been told the replacement is a brand new completely assembled engine from the factory.

I am at the same point. My service dealer seems to be resisting the test to determine whether compression issue is the cause of my problem.

My regular symptoms are ESS needs service and sensation of misfiring engine. I have had 4 CEL lights over 3.5 months since purchase. Were your symptoms similar?

Before the PCM update was getting PO300 codes and CEL along with ESS lights/messages. After PCM, it was “pending” PO300 codes and ESS lights/messages. Had rough idle consistently throughout. Dealership confirmed engine was misfiring and in working with FCA technicians identified the compression issue. I would ask dealership to ensure they are talking to FCA technicians that have addressed this situation as it is a known problem. I would also ask your dealership to escalate this on the FCA customer service side. I know it is incredibly frustrating. Fortunately my dealership has been very helpful. Good luck.

By the way,
Jeep Cares will do nothing for you while your vehicle is in the shop on an "active case" if your vehicle does not qualify for your state's lemon law yet.

Once it comes out of the shop, they will negotiate items for your "inconvenience".

I am more than inconvenienced when the shop has my rig more than I do and I haven't even made a payment on it yet.

I just got a call from my Service Manager. Reportedly, my Gladiator "passed" the compression test. But in doing the work, the mechanic noticed that lifters on the left side of the engine were "loose," and that new lifters would be installed. Additionally, another computer update to address these issues was being issued by FCA as of tomorrow, and would be installed on my Gladiator then. After all that and a test drive, my Gladiator should be available for a pickup on Saturday. I am hoping for the best. Stay tuned.

Well, I just got a notification that the top end rebuild/replacement was unsuccessful. The truck immediately threw another P0300 code. Perhaps Jeep will do the right thing this time. 39 days in the shop, 53 days of ownership, 7 days of top-off fun times without a code and obvious misfires.

Most of my engine is torn apart and sitting in the bed. Being told misfire is in the # 6 cylinder. Compression test shows left side of the motor 2,4,6 at 140,150,150 and right 1,3,5 at 160,165,167. At this point they aren’t sure why the big variance from the left to right side of the motor. They have pulled the oil control valves, checked the specs on the variable value timing and cam phaser alignment. The dealer is waiting for the next step/suggestion from FCA.

Lifters and rocker arms (both sides) didn't fix mine. I hope your results are better.

Not sure what the current spec is, but it used to be 10% was the max. Anything over that, you needed engine work. So a 165 minus 10% means the lowest acceptible is roughly 150.

I’m not sure either. That’s what I’ve read as well. I’m not sure what they’ll do next.

Is the issue on going? Yes
If so, what has been done to try to solve the issue? First visit "cleared code and test drove vehicle. Light did not come back on this time."
Was the issue ever fully resolved? Not yet

CEL and ESS

Anyone in the NE Dallas area with a recommended service department? One perhaps with experience with this issue?

Next step is computer update, and now a second update.

Third step is replacing engine parts such as lifters, rockers, etc..

So far, the only reported true fix I have read about here is a complete engine replacement.

I am just finishing 3rd step.

Does anyone have an exact count of how many gladiators on here have the misfire issue?
