Didn't know they rented Rubicons. Only one I was able to rent was a standard sport model. Its the only thing I saw on the lots
What are we m,issing here? Doesn't appear "destroyed". In fact it just looks stuck in the creek and after recovery (I assume) somehow has a broken hub/axle (or whatever is broken) and damaged bumper?

Dang ole urban boys done rented Jeep end up stuck at Butt Crack Crick got busted axle had to get towed out and done bragged on Interwebs. Them New York boys tell you what.
Say what now?

What was stuck in a butt crack?

As for New York, not everyone is sporting a flat brim and popped collar and bragging about how nice it is in massapequa.

Because boy howdy I WILL tell you what! We can go drink some beam and chew some redman and I'll take you to a place I know where you can wheel for the rest of your life. It's just down the way from Gilgo Beach.

The pic of it in the creek is before he snapped the axle

My friends are in Boston right now, they were offered a special price of $17/day to rent a JTR. Nobody wanted them they were told, everyone wanted small cars. So of course they took it.
I was able to rent one when I wanted to check them out before buying but all I could get was the standard sport model with just the basics. Guess they have added to the types now

No they don't
Depends on what "off-roading" is. Insurance companies HAVE to pay for coverage from damage on roads. Here in KY most of the public "trails" are old county roads. They are still listed as valid roads, some show up on google maps. BUT, they are often nothing but ruts, rocks, and driving down a creek. These "roads" include stretches of mud and rock hills that rigs on 40s still break. One place had a "road", going up to a private spot called Stump Cave, 4 jeeps broke trying to get to it and/or recovering one that was stuck. Pics inbound

And yes, I have it in writing from my insurance company that they cover these kinds of "roads"

I grew up down the road from Gilgo, at Oak Beach. 27 years there. This is it at the thumb a few years back

That's what we call a seasonally maintained road or even the dreaded unmaintained road.

More to the point here, the insurance will cover accidents and damage but it's where does negligence come into it; that's where the investigator and adjuster are going to start fighting back.

Your signature and how ever many dollars doesn't absolve you of all responsibility.

Heck a $17 per day I may just sell mine and rent !

$17 per day times 30 days is $510 per month ... Seems extremely low for a vehicle that costs 60k ...

Highly doubt that's for a Rubi- I think that would be a sport

Looks like someone hooked a chain to the steering knuckle and jerked him out...
This is exactly what I think happened. Couldn't get them out using tow hooks, so likely used a chain and too small of a recovery vehicle. They likely tried to pull over and over again with force thinking it was like a kinetic rope...clearly the chain/strap didn't stretch and ripped the knuckle or unseated the ball joint completely.

A few years back I went to Army friend's daughter's wedding in KY. His other daughter's and B.F. flew in, rented a high end model Ford pickup 4×4. It went through a creek and like, when it went back it wasn't as it was. It was banged up, scratched ran hard put up wet but not quite to that level. But they wasn't worried about the cost. When you fly in on your company's plane that's not a concern.
