I just got a look at the now-removed spacers in the day light and noticed they seemed to have put some sort of red grease on the inner part of the spacers.

While I was expecting red loctite on the wheel studs (and found none), or even maybe even some silver never-seize on the flat mating side of the spacer (none of that either), I definitely was not expecting to see what appears to be red grease.

I’ll admit I’m not terribly familiar with spacer installs, but I’ve read the manufacturer’s directions and never saw anything like this in there.

Any ideas?

Those should have an hub centric insert that matches the pilot on the hub it looks like. Without that, the wheel studs are supporting the load.

Wheel spacers should already be machined to be hub centric. I’ve never heard of or used hub centric rings inside a spacer/adapter.
That just looks like some grease someone put on the hub flange to get them to slide on easy over the surface rust on the hub?

I agree and I haven't either, but the size of that bevel cut looks like it is taller than the pilot on the hub.

I had a similar issue when I had new wheels installed. The aftermarket lugnuts were too short for the lugs and were not tightening the wheel down. Longer lug nuts fixed it. Not sure on size though. I would definitely stop driving it and get longer ones. I got luck and only went a couple miles before getting it back to the shop.

I think it’s fine. Looks engaged beyond.

Yeah, I don't know that kind of looks like more mystery grease.

Does anybody know what brand these are?

I'll have to find a pic of a rotor and look at the pilot pad.

ETA : I see they are G2, nothing I see on the website to suggest they require centric rings

Well, I returned them to the shop. They told me they use Mobile 1 synthetic grease to prevent seizing—said they don’t use Never-Seize because once it’s on their fingers it gets everywhere.

They also said they would send them back and look into why I was experiencing the issue.

I think in the spring I’ll look into finding an 18x9 rim I can move my 285/75R18’s onto with sufficient offset and backspacing to clear the lower control arms.

Suffice to say, I would not recommend G2 wheel spacers.
