Going to Buy Again In December 2021

Ok, this might sound weird, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to either sell or trade in my JTO, titled SNZZBRY, this coming December on another Gladiator (2022).

This was my first Jeep and I made a ton of mistakes in buying it. I didn't get the exact options I wanted and I think I paid too much. I also got all those extra options, to the tune of almost $100 extra a month on my payment.

I made a few mods to the truck, but all were for the better. I'll probably get more by selling it than what I would get in a trade in, but I'll see. I have an Overland now and I'll probably go for a Rubicon next time. There are lots of little things to help that decision.

I'll just keep the tires I have, stay with the 2" lift, and drive it this year, while planning on getting a new one in December. Ideas and helpful comments?

I'll let you decide if that is a good financial decision (not that any vehicle purchase is), so my only suggestion/advice (since you asked for it) would be to just drive the JTO and enjoy it. Decide what you like and what you would change for the next build. Focus on upgrades that you can easily swap over without too much hassle. I hate pulling stuff off my vehicles when I sell them, so I usually don't bother. I'd stick with interior stuff like floor mats, phone mounts (but don't worry about hiding wires until you get the new one), maybe a bedrack and/or Molle panels in the bed if those items are on your wishlist. Camping gear, storage boxes that can fit in the bed, etc.; stuff like that. Bumpers, sliders, winch, etc. will be a PITA to pull off and reinstall, so I'd wait for that if I were in your place.

And in the meantime, do TONS of research here. I know you are already pretty active on the forums now, but see what others are doing and decide exactly what you want and factory order it. I know I've changed my mind a bunch since I've been on the forums, so I'm glad I waited before buying. I almost pulled the trigger on one on a lot back when the JT was first released, and had I done so, I'd have regrets.

Of course, your JTO is pretty sweet as it is. Perhaps you can go aftermarket to make it exactly what you want? The cost difference between that and starting over might be cheaper or a wash. Only a detailed cost analysis would answer that, and maybe you've already done that.

Seems being patient will give you more options while you enjoy what you have now

OK, so your in need of all the extras on a Rubicon, list price is a lot more then the overland, and you will still have to put a two inch lift on it, The Overland would probably be the top selling model if you could get the max tow option on it. Hopefuly your Jeep goes up in value enough to allow trading in less then a year......Jack

Not going to lie, I almost traded mine in on a Mojave just last month and it had everything I wanted, problem was... I’ve already added lift, tires, bumper, winch, side steps, etc and everytime I walked outside and looked at it... it was mine, I made it mine.

So... nail in the coffin... I put 4.56 in it last week and oh boy. I’d still like lsd but I’m glad I didn’t make the move.

A Max Tow Overland would be a very good seller, might ever devalue the Rubicons and Mojaves.

By paying too much, I mean that I paid sticker minus the employee pricing discount.

Thanks for all of your advice. I did say I paid too much and by that I meant that not only did I pay off sticker but I also added all the insurance and extra options that added another $100 to my payment. So, it will be smarter for me to get out of paying that sooner than later.

My Rubicon came with a lot of options. Now that I've had it for 7 months, my opinions.
Aux switches----awesome. Get them if you can.
Bed liner---Meh. Factory bedliner is kind of thin.
Tonneau cover--- One of the things mine didn't come with, and I'm glad. Factory option was expensive. My Tyger soft tri-fold is awesome and was inexpensive. I love having the bed covered.
Trail rail system---I use mine once in a while as an expensive flag holder.
Heated seats and steering wheel.---Freakin awesome. It gets cold here in the winter.
Hard top---same as above.
Front camera---I don't miss not having one. Eyeballs and common sense are good enough.
Tow package---who would buy a pickup without one?
Steel front bumper---I was hoping mine came with one, but I'm liking my aftermarket.
Led light package---night to day difference from previous Wranglers.
Rear bed power outlet---haven't used it. Maybe I'll haul a lighted reindeer someday.
8.4 screen and premium audio---I like it.
Bluetooth speaker---Don't have it, don't miss it.
Premium wheels and MT tires---If you are swapping, these are easier to sell.

If I was trading for a different one, I don't think I would change a thing, except the bed liner.
And a Hemi!

Thanks for all of your advice. I did say I paid too much and by that I meant that not only did I pay off sticker but I also added all the insurance and extra options that added another $100 to my payment. So, it will be smarter for me to get out of paying that sooner than later.

Not sure what you mean by insurance and extra options.
Is that mostly money gone, like nitrogen in the tires and a $1000 wax job?
Or is it something that really is a monthly expense that could be negated by re-financing through somewhere like a local credit union?

So, I purchased the ding shield, vehicle protection plan, extra maintenance, total loss protection, and road hazard tire care. All in all it added about $75 to my payment.

Lockers, front and rear. Aux switches. Ecodiesel. Extra height of Rubicon. Improved shocks. LED light package. Front camera.
