I would keep that one, and just keep reading and learning. It will keep you from losing the money as well.

I'm at the point now where I will probably just make mods that will increase the sell value, like a tonneau cover, LED lights, and possibly new bumpers. This are all mods I want for me, so it works both ways.
Unfortunately, thats not really the way it works unless you find someone in a private deal that just wants those or UNLESS it came that way from the factory.

My neighbor has a JLUR4xe on order. I am highly skeptical of the thing but will see.
I just dont understand the thrill with having an electric vehicle. Call my old school, or a pollutant, but whatever. Just dont get it.

You get mad green cred with your weekend latte friends.
And you can park at Whole Foods without the nasty looks from Prius owners.
You guys are cute. Maybe do a little research on the 4xe before bashing something you don't understand. Presuming it is only for granola-eating-enviro-green-freaks just shows your ignorance of the technology and the (non-environmental hype) benefits.

I have concerns over the 2.0L Turbo engine and electric drive components but we will see. By 2022/2023 the Wrangler variants will have been on the roads for a couple years, hopefully, and problems will be brought up so folks can determine the risk. This was similar with the JT being released a couple years after the JL, but not exactly the same as the 3.6 has been around for about a decade with updates.

An all electric vehicle is great for performance like speed and torque. It can pull a lot more because the transmission is not limited by cooling. It also has a much lower center of gravity so rollovers are rare. Where electricity is cheap and you dont need to make long trips with relatively good time (meaning can afford to stop to charge as needed, maybe a couple hours every few hundred miles?), they make a lot of sense for gas savings. A Tesla, or would save me $3000 a year just daily driving 40mi in gas costs when considering cost of electricity, and with a future solar installation it could be $0.

For a hybrid Jeep, it would be great to daily commute in and save on gas. With a 40mi range it would eliminate my daily gas needs city driving, and cut out 975gal of gas each year compared to my JT, at $2.50/gal that's over $2400, with electricity costing maybe $400/yr, if that with a charger at work covering charges for employees (Im nearly certain as soon as someone at work gets an electric vehicle they'd install one for the feels/PR)

Not necessarily, I'd still be considered an evil Capitalist for driving an "expensive" electric/hybrid vehicle, even a Tesla because Musk is not in line with certain agendas.

And you can park at Whole Foods without the nasty looks from Prius owners.
Again, a hybrid SUV still isn't good enough for those people. Theirs are "more efficient" and "people don't need anything beside a 1-seater in their minds (or personal vehicles at all).

ETA: looks like KY is adding taxes/fees on hybrid/electric vehicles ($150/yr) to compensate for less fuel consumption generating less tax revenue for roads. Still a win.

I am sure these comments including mine aren’t bashing the 4xe. It’s just not for everyone. I will be happy to check it out once it’s available. And BTW I do understand and have read all about it and am sure it will smoke my gasser.

Lol.

You are saying 'anyone who disagrees with me is either uneducated or hasn't done any research, because otherwise you SURELY would agree with me' without knowing ANYTHING about who you are responding to.

THAT is the actual uneducated comment.

So, I purchased the ding shield, vehicle protection plan, extra maintenance, total loss protection, and road hazard tire care. All in all it added about $75 to my payment.
yikes, I feel like they really get you with stuff like that. Can you recoup any of it (ie...get pro-rated refund)?

I will admit, jeeps (esp. wranglers) are different than other vehicles where you can trade often.

I initially bought a brand new JLU Sahara 2018 when they came out in stick shift, (only option was hardtop) and later wanted a rubicon.....I traded the same Sahara in for a 2018 used rubicon (11k miles on Sahara and 3k miles on rubi).....rubicon had hardtop, auto and heated seats (so pretty basic). It only cost me about 5k to trade which was within $500 of what I would have paid differently new.

Bottom line is if you buy a jeep with not too many options you usually do well (best in my experience are either base rubicons, base Saharas or a base sport with roll down windows). Occasionally with a base sport they sometimes give you more than you paid (sounds crazy but it has happened to me).

Not sure if gladiators are the same though but I certainly am happy with the deal I got on a Sport S gladiator with preferred package.

Lol indeed. I didn’t say that at all. You said:

What are you skeptical about?

Range anxiety? It’s not a full EV, so the ICE engages when the battery dies.

Water fording? The battery is under the back seat in a sealed box.

Power? 375 hp and 470 ft-lb of torque.

Turbo 2.0L ICE? This was my initial concern, but there are tons of JL owners running 37s and lift offroad with tons of success. Sure, the range will be reduced (like any lifted Jeep), but the little 2.0T still gets better mpgs than the 3.6 or 3.0.

Battery life? Meh. Even the older tech EVs and hybrids are still on the road. If it lasts 10 years, I’d be happy. Either replace the battery with a new one (which by then will likely result in even more range on EV) or sell it before it gets to be a concern. Placement of the battery should make it easy to replace, reducing the cost of doing so.

Batteries are bad for the environment? Yes, they are. But so are ICE vehicles. Plus roads are bad. Driving offroad through forests and streams is bad. Campfires are bad. Camping stoves are bad. Blah blah blah, it’s all bad and the world is going to heck in a hand basket. Best to just roll with it and stop being preachy.

What am I missing that makes you a skeptic?

You get mad green cred with your weekend latte friends.
And there’s the condescending assumption that anyone who might want one is a latte drinking eco nazi.

I’ve said on numerous occasions that the 4xe isn’t for everyone, but that it is a great option for many. I really wanted the 3.0, but realistically the majority of my driving is short trips, so I’d probably be one of those with regen issues. I have zero problems with the 3.6 and have one in my JK. So you won’t see me bash any who chooses one of those options.

Anyways, go ahead and get your last word zinger in or take this discussion to the 4xe Gladiator thread and let’s leave this one to responses to @Snzzbry_Ovrlnd.
