Is this a serious thing that needs to be regularly monitored?

Just picked my truck up a week ago and have 1500 miles on it, but I have been doing 120+ mile off road sections before hitting the highway again and was wondering how long it takes to fill the filter. Have about 250 miles of off road and 700 mioes on road before this trip is over.

I guess Jeep doesn’t want you to think so because they don’t put any monitoring gear in there. But like I said in my OP, my wife got in and got a message that she needs to drive at constant speed until it regens. Not sure what would have happened if it wasn’t able to regen that time, but I have heard on JL board that it will go into limp mode if it doesn't regen in time. So if you don’t want to get surprised by it, I would think monitoring it is the only way to avoid it

Maybe we could get the Tazer guys to add a filter status so it wouldn't take another device to do the job.

Maybe we should all bombard #Jeepcares to actually put this on factory display. Seems it would just be a flash upgrade to Uconnect.

I'm still waiting for my JTRD to be delivered, but reading all these threads (and coming from a Chevy 3500 Duramax) about DPF/DEF and regens. Has anyone tried using the AlfaOBD app to do a forced stationary manual regen?

Friend of mine just bought a used (25k miles) GMC Canyon with the 2.8 Duramax. Has had it maybe 3 weeks and had to have the dealer perform one of those regens. He said it took a couple of hours and 1/4 tank of fuel.

I need to do a little more research myself, but it seemed like his duramax we not able to complete regens even though he was highway driving 60 minutes+ many times over. He’s not a fast driver, about 5 over the speedlimit, so 65-70, and the RPMs stay under 2k. Do these regens need a high RPM, or is that something the regen system should be managing?

They "want" speed and air flow to cool the underside of the vehicle. They can regen while parked but it will get real hot around the exhaust. It is the reason why lots of diesel tailpipe have the louvers at the last 12" of pipe, so people dont burn themselves.

That's really unusual, could be a problem with his truck. My 6.6L Duramax would regen about once every tank of fuel. It was very noticeable because mpg would drop from 20ish to 10-12, and if I stopped before it was complete the smell was very noticeable. I primarily did a lot of short trips around town, with a 1 hr highway drive once a week. Never had any issue with regens in 5 years.

I use OBD Fusion and there is a stock PID for DPF%.

I just went on my first road trip with my diesel and it stayed in the 20% range the entire 600 miles.

Did an active regen the day before the trip, was hoping I could stay under 80% to see if it would passively regen all the way down.

This screen shot is just when the Active regen started.
Which OBD II device did you use?

Tried to set up my gauges today, but a few aren't working.

What is everyone using for Regen Mode? I've got Service ID = 01, PID = 8B, exp. = {B:0}, min = 0, max =1 but no data comes through

DPF Temp isn't working either: Service ID = 01, PID = 7C, exp. = ((256 * A + B)/10)-40, min = 0, max = 1500

What are folks using for Turbo? I'd like to see psi

What gauge are you using?

The DPF Temp that I got from a RAM owner uses PID 3C with equation ((A * 256) + B) / 10-40.

I was using OBDdash.SportsGauge for Windows. I think I got DPF Temp working, but still having trouble with Regen Mode (I think this is supposed to be 0 or 1 if it's going through a regen?).

I'm using OBD Fusion on iOS so not sure how that compares but I would assume it's somewhat similar...

Regen mode will be 0 or 1 but there are 2 different PID's, one for Passive regen and one for Active regen. Both will show 1 during an Active regen. Mine runs in Passive regen on a regular basis, even driving in-town but it's not very effective in reducing soot in-town. On the highway I've seen 15% - 20% reduction on long highway drives.
