I wonder if there are different ACC systems out there which may be more sensitive to windshield conditions. Maybe the glass company just has a generic company policy to cover all possible cars.

It's a documented procedure because it must be done when the actual assembly is replaced. If a glass company mandates that it has to be done then they are either ignorant or trying to overcharge you.
That is a very simplistic viewpoint which ignores the fact that many decisions like that are made by lawyers.

That's very true. The lawyers for Stellantis decided that it's not necessary. If they felt that it was a liability to them in any way not to do it they would add it to the service procedure.

More than likely that's the case. They don't want to go to the trouble to find the service procedure for every make and model of every vehicle they swap windshields in. It's easier to say "calibrate them all" regardless of whether they need it or not.

Does anyone have a copy of the Jeep Service Procedure for Windshield Replacement? That would be nice to have for anyone not covered by insurance when the glass company is insisting that a recalibration is needed.

INSTALLATION

  1. If the windshield (1) is being reused, remove as much original urethane (3) as possible from the glass surface using a razor knife (2).

    NOTE:
To prevent corrosion, do not damage paint on windshield frame when removing original urethane.

    NOTE:
The windshield frame should be cleaned of most of its old urethane adhesive. A small amount of old urethane, approximately 1 mm in height should remain on the frame. Do not completely remove all old urethane from the frame, the paint finish and bonding strength will be adversely affected.

  3. Using an assistant, position the windshield (1) into the windshield opening and against the windshield frame (2).
  4. Verify the windshield lays evenly against the frame at the top, bottom and sides of the opening. If not, the frame must be formed to the shape of the windshield.
  5. Mark the windshield and the windshield frame with pieces of masking tape to use as a reference for installation.
  6. Using an assistant, remove the windshield from the windshield opening and place it on a suitable padded work surface.

    WARNING:
Do not use solvent based glass cleaners to clean the windshield before applying glass prep and primer or poor glass adhesion may result.

  7. Clean the inside of the windshield with an ammonia based glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth.
  8. Apply glass prep adhesion promoter 25 mm (1 in.) wide (1) around the perimeter of the windshield (2) and 5 mm (0.2 in.) from the edge of the glass and wipe dry with a clean lint-free cloth until no streaks are visible.
  9. Apply glass primer 25 mm (1 in.) wide (1) around the perimeter of the windshield (2) and 5 mm (0.2 in.) from the edge of the glass. Allow at least three minutes drying time.
  10. Using a flashlight, verify that the primer is completely and evenly installed along the perimeter of the windshield.
  11. Re-prime any area that is not fully and evenly primed.

    CAUTION:
Always apply the bead of adhesive to the windshield. Always install the windshield within 5 minutes after applying the adhesive.

    NOTE:
If the original urethane adhesive has been exposed for more than 12 hours, the entire adhesive area will need to be re-primed prior to installing new adhesive.
  16. Apply approximately a 7 mm (0.3 in.) wide and 13 mm (0.5 in.) tall bead of adhesive (1) with a triangular nozzle approximately 6 mm (0.230 in.) from the edge of the glass (2) starting at the bottom center of the windshield.

I was looking for a PDF file of that section of the Service Manual, and/or the section on ACC/FCW Recalibration. I would not be able to use that, and would not accept that alone, as proof that recalibration is not necessary. That covers just the glass installation, not the whole service process.

That IS the whole process. Have you ever actually looked at a manufacturers service manual? IF calibration was necessary there would be another step. Common sense alone tells you that you don't have to calibrate something you never touch but apparently common sense is becoming less and less common. You asked for the Jeep windshield replacement procedure. You got it and now that's not good enough. Do what ever you want.

The response I expected was PDF files of the sections I mentioned from the Service Manual. The cut and paste into a forum thread is difficult to print. I could go on about my experience with Factory Service Manuals, but I won't. After all, as was mentioned by another poster, this is a thread about the Steering TSB.

Thanks for taking the time to post this. Id love to have the service manual but seems like its some sort of subscription deal.

Actually if you've seen their processes, if more is needed or recommended, they always have a line "refer to xxxxx for how to......." Even the TSBs say "replace xyz, refer to xx procedure" They make references before or as the last line, they don't just wrap it up and say it's good. The example posted would have had one more line basically saying "you ain't done yet, refer to procedure number 123 for recalibration......." they would NOT have the recalibration process in the glass replacement process, they would refer out to it and not duplicate it.
The steering TSBs, for example, refer to the processes on saving settings and updating the software - they don't tell you how in the TSB, they refer you to a procedure number.

I will try to post pics of my windshield - our trip to CO. The bugs were so bad twice my wife stopped and insisted I clean the glass. I brought two products and even then it was smudgy because of the way NE and KS raise and feed their man-eating bugs out there. I mean STICKY - the rags were coming out black and brown and some were bloody looking. I've never had such problem in Iowa.
Anyway, we used ACC there and back. Even when it was hard to see, there was glare from smudged bugguts, that sort of thing, the truck's systems performed flawlessly.
That hints to me that if they work THROUGH all of those guts, the alignment process isn't so much about the glass as it is the AIM of the thing. Align - the very word.......... So as long as the devices aren't impacted or have not lost their AIM, ALIGNMENT shouldn't be needed.
The damn things work through thick bug goo that human eyes have trouble seeing through, and that cause glare.
