I would sell them rights to use the photo, but you retain unlimited rights to use or sell licenses as you see fit.

Most major corporations also do this to professional photographers (ask for the photo for free, or just use it without permission).

I am of the camp that if they want it they can pay for it, otherwise they can bugger off.

My $0.02 (you're getting lots of those, right?): Let'em use it and be proud/flattered that they're incorporating YOUR picture into a national campaign of sorts. It's cool they're doing that, and I'm sure they have LOTS of other choices (should you opt to say no). I have a stupid cat (my daughter's, actually) in my house, so I'll never post to that thread - BUT, were I in your position, I'd just say "Yup, go ahead." But that's just me...

Not one concern or idea of maybe tossin' the pooch a bone?(or a pet supply based shopping spree'ish) After all, if it was JUST your mugshot no one would of given a flyin' Fig Newton. Tell them yes but....The dog is the subject here.

No company can allow such free use of trademarks and copyrights. Sure, they don’t want to lose possible revenue but preventing harm to the brand is the most important thing. I understand why Jeep would want to limit the use of their logo for events, ensuring a positive experience for the participants, community and environment.

I’m sure Yeti won’t engrave a Coca Cola or pro sports team logo either.

Agree to disagree. They just want the money. A jeep club… saying you can’t have a picture of Jeeps as the front page of a 15k Jeep club on Facebook?? Not allowing the logo doesn’t control the ”positive experience”. The experience will be the same regardless of whether someone can have a logo on their cup or club. We aren’t talking about an Event that Jeep hasn’t sanctioned, two totally different things. We are talking about jeeping asking to use your stuff for free to promote their brand but when you want to engrave a cup or slap a stick on an cooler or wear a tshirt with a jeep grill on it to promote their brand they won’t let you without first paying them for said promotion.

Fiat asked to do something similar with two of my Instagram posts - they posted it once and gave me credit. Other than that, I don’t think they used them again.
It was cool to see all the likes!

I’d tell them to have at it, expect nothing in return, and consider it a deposit in the karma bank.
I would think any of us who have a Gladiator or are getting one have plenty of money as it is. Life is good.

In my opinion; let them have the picture out of the kindness of your heart. Your picture was picked over how many others they looked at? Thats something to be proud of in itself...sometimes monetary value is not the most important value.

✌

I recently posted the picture below, in the "Show me your furry Co-Pilots" thread.

It was also posted on my Instagram account with various hashtags involving Australian Shepherds, and Jeeps. The Jeep Brand contacted me and has requested to use the image in social medial platforms throughout the world, possibly multiple times, for an indefinite period time. They will give me credit, but cannot offer me payment at this time.

To be honest, it is pretty damn cool... But, as my buddy who owns a JL Rubi said to me - "they could at least toss you some grab handles, or something."

What would you do?

I'd let 'em use it, if it were me. It is cool and fun and gives you some bragging rights among friends. Besides, you never know. Other opportunities might spring from it.

I'm so ugly that that kind of opportunity would never come my way. So enjoy it!

I’m in agreement with many others that posted. The most that you could reasonably request in exchange for the picture is a T-shirt, some stickers, or maybe a mug, etc etc…

Like someone else said, they probably have dozens if not hundreds of photos to use. There are probably more people on this forum discussing your photo than Jeep employees lol. It is a great picture however.

I say just send them the go ahead and ask for some free Jeep gear in exchange too. Either way, good luck. I hope they can surprise you with something way better and cooler!

our aussie was a little reluctant to give up my Nissan. I have to pick her up a good harness for some topless rides in the new Jeep.

Consider this, …have you ever posted your photos on Facebook and not wanted to get paid for it? If you post your photos there, Facebook assumes full ownership of it to do with as they please and you get the middle finger salute for it.
At least the Jeep folks asked to use it. That puts them one level higher than Facebook…in my book.

Very limited social media user - Only on LinkedIn and Instagram. Insta was out of necessity, originally because my son was going to space camp several years ago, and that is how real time communication was being provided. Since then, I have come to enjoy the platform and keeping up with friends across the country.

I hear you though -- thank you.
