Also found a used 37x12.5x17 MT Deegan 38 for sale on the local classifieds. It functioned as a spare on a JKU Wrangler so there's plenty thread which might mean it might not fit as well as yours.

Its currently mounted on an older 2007-2013 JK Rubicon rim pictured below. Can anyone confirm this style of rim will fit on the JT? Offset is 44mm+ which is typical of all JK/JL/JT stock wheels but I don't want to assume only to find out one day when I need to use the spare...it doesn't.

The above Rubicon JK wheel cannot be used as a spare wheel as the center hub hole is not large enough for the support cable latch to go through it. I ended finding a JL 17"x7.5" OEM alloy wheel with the newer 2.25" center hub hole. Was able to get the full treadwear Deegan 38 (37x12.5.17) lifted up. Makes contact with hitch and frame. Will tinker with it to get it up higher.

Are there and vendors that offer a receiver hitch with a different profile that would give us more room for a 37?

Has anyone ground down the inside of the square tubing that makes up the receiver. It Looks like you could gain about 3/8ths of an inch if you ground it down to the weld.

I was surprised to find my 37x12.50 KO2 on the stock steel wheel inflated to 30 psi fit with no rubbing on either the hitch receiver, trackbar, or heat shield.

The perception that KO2s run a lot smaller than other 37s is a bit of a misnomer. I was at a tire shop yesterday and the owner has a JL with 37” trail grapplers on it, we measured his tires and mine. His were taller by half an inch, which wasn’t as much as either of us thought it would be. Visually the Nittos looked larger.

Gotta watch that track bar. But lets just say you get that big 37 to fit…. I’m curious on how long that spare tire hoist would last with the addition weight. Idk.. maybe I’m over thinking it.

I personally went with a bed mount. I think it makes it look aggressive. Especially when the tops arw off and the adventure doors are installed.

i just installed yesterday. Headed to gold mountain soon for a quick little run to see how durable. So far so good though.

I grinded off the extra fat on the trailer hitch and installed claytons rear track bar. Mickey boss a/t now fits under the bed
Good to know, not sure I want to buy a new track bar, may just throw the spare in the bed for longer trips.

Looks good if you're into that kinda thing. Personally I bought a Jeep Gladiator because it's a pickup truck with a box that can carry stuff. That tire eats up >½ usable space and doesn't exactly help the view out the rear window.

So sounds like some combination of
  • The new Clayton track bar
  • Some grinding of the hitch
  • A different exhaust system that allows the removal of the heat shield
That 37s should be just fine in there. At what point does the frame become an issue for 40s? And since the frame there is not really load bearing, just supports the bed and is part of a very long rear crumple zone... what about notching it horizontally?

A Wrangler would actually end up having more storage than a tire in the bed setup like that.
