the fuel economy hit going from 33s stock rubicon A/T to 35s M/T ridge grappler is significant just a heads up. If you just do another set of slippers maybe not so much
My Rubicon has the MTs from the factory not the ATs, so fuel economy is already crap, but I hear you on the other points. I actually like my tires a lot, so when I upgrade, I might just get the same Falken Wildpeak MTs, only bigger. How do you like the ridge Grapplers?

My JTR also came from the factory with the Falken M/T's, and I was highly impressed with them. I tried to order them in 37's when I upgraded a few months ago, but I couldn't find them anywhere because they were backordered.

I did it because I wanted to. Building my own vehicle like I did with my high performance cars. Have always modified my cars.

I had a vision and it’s what I do....not what everyone else does.

For the record ....3” lift ...37s, 4:88s and 18+ mpg .....and I can damn near go anywhere. Best of all worlds.

i like them a lot. They give a ton of traction in the rocks as well as mud and perform really well as low as 10 PSI. on-road noise not too bad and they look good too which is always a plus. they do hum over 80MPH if that’s important. I thought the 2 inch and 35s was enough for me as I was not planning to do “hard” stuff but turns out you end up on hard stuff much more often than you think and then you like it!!! I don’t mind scraping in general but at this rate it’s not going to be sustainable ha ha. getting same tires in 37s

IMO, JT owners that will go off road frequently would be best served by spending their money on skid plates before lifts/tires. But nobody notices skid plates they do notice lifts/tires.

Why did you get the Gladiator? It doesn't sound like you do "hardcore offroad" either. There are plenty of other midsize trucks that tow, haul and drive better on road. So why the Gladiator? Probably because it's a cool ass truck :) Just like lifts and big tires.
Well I live about 8200ft up in Wyoming. So traveling through deep snow is my number one issue. Also drive at higher speeds on dirt-main reason I went with a Mojave over a Rubicon.

Well, around here, it's slow speeds and sharp rocks. Elevation isn't an issue at all here, nor is departure angle. I just don't want to break expensive bits on rough terrain. I want ground clearance and underside protection. 5-8 mph is about the maximum in the rough areas. I don't do any crawling, but sharp rocks sneak up on me in mud holes sometimes. I went with a Rubicon, because it was at the price I wanted for the options I wanted (except I wanted a soft top).

We do get a bit of snow, so we're on the same page there

I ditched the factory mojave 285/70-17s(32x11) tires and wheels.
Went with 255/80-17s(33x10)

Narrowed the track more to my liking.

I am not a fan of the "R/C car" look with the wide "stance" and fat tires sticking out past the fender flares.
I like the lighter steering effort and reduced stress on running gear components.
I also find the narrower tires give better traction in the terrain i frequent.

I got tired of hitting the belly and control arms on the "moderate" trails around here. After a few trips without 35s, I decided it was a priority after a winch. See my photos of 15k miles, that's when I added 35s. You can see the damage. Compare to the pics in my thread on 35k miles.

Why does anyone do anything?

I haven't done any mods to mine other than some storage and cross bar mounting things because they are very helpful in regards to how a use my truck daily, which supports my main hobby. Because I'd rather spend money on my main hobby I don't really have the budget to add modes to the Gladiator.

If I had money for bigger tires and a lift and other stuff Id probably do it but then Id probably use that money for an even better TT bike. Cause yeah, I cant seem to spend enough that hobby.
