Thanks man! You need to go. It's an off road paradise. Two solid breweries in town and a hot springs for after. Imogene will run out of Telluride and back to Ouray. You can see Bridal Veil Falls as you climb. I called the ranger station in town and the woman I talked to there gave me the best piece of advice. Run Ophir from out of Ouray up to Telluride and then run Imogene back. If you run Ophir this way you have a nice view for the entire 3/4 mile shelf road and trail leading up to it. There is a nice fat spot to sit and wait if you see vehicles climbing. There is no place to yield on that shelf. So you just hang out til it's all clear and get after it. You don't want to have to back up.

Love this. Ever since following all the ADV riders doing the TAT I've dreamed of getting to the San Juans. Someday a trip out west will happen and Imogene, Black Bear, and Engineer Passes are all on the list. What a memory to make with your crew. Thanks for sharing and keeping the dream alive.

Hell, Where weren’t we this weekend.

Letā€˜s see. For starters we had to get by Chocolate Falls. Appropriately named of course. Weā€˜ve had some rain and this only happens so often. Great hike down next to the falls. Next, we headed out to Winslow AZ. Yep...that corner. Route 66 shot was worth every effort. And yes, that is a flat bed Ford in the pic. Then headed back to Flagstaff for dinner and overnight. Next morning it was off to Cinder Hills in Flagstaff. Bet most didn’t know how many volcanoes are in AZ. Nothing like wheeling on thousand year old volcano ā€œashā€. Wasn’t gutsy enough to climb the volcanoes. Google it. The sxs videos trying to climb it are crazy. After that is was back to Phoenix via 89a through Sedona. One of the best drives you will ever do.

I would be remiss if I didnā€˜t throw in the obligitory shot of the wife’s Wrangler on Schnebly Hill.

Considering planning a trip to telluride next year to do black bear. What's the best time if year to go?

Mid July or August. Mid week if you can swing it. I did not do Black Bear this time, but everything was open. I noticed by Tuesday that traffic on the trails had died off quite a bit. You could feasibly snag Ophir, Imogene, Black Bear, Engineer and Poughkeepsie in one trip. Would bag you 5 Badge of Honor Trails.

Yankee Boy Basin is also great. It was a bit muddy and slick, plus lots of rocks. I enjoyed picking lines that were on switchbacks and climbing rock steps. You can really flex out your JT. Just run it all the way.

Wow! Great timing seeing the falls. Looks like some great scenery. Last time I was in Flagstaff I had my wife pose next to the flat bed Ford for a pic! Looks like you had a very nice trip.

Upper Purches by Hatchers Pass, Alaska. It was pretty slick from all the rain we had earlier in the week. So on the way back down, my tires slid out while trying to get around a tree and "crunch", damage to the roof. I've currently patched it up with some flex tape and black gorilla tape over that. Still a fun day...with a few more trail scars. I wasn't the only one; a couple other Jeeps didn't finish unscathed.

Did a little beach wheeling at OBX. Hurricane Henri has kicked the tides up a notch and I unfortunately had to drive through some salt water puddles to get back to the beach exit. No where to rinse off either until Monday. Guess it's no worse than the salt on the roads during the winter.
