If No Advanced Auto Follow Cruise Control, etc. Is Spec'ed On Order, Does The JT Windshield Still Have a Camera?

I plan to mount a big Codan HF antenna on the right front steel bumper of my JT, passenger side. This means I cannot have any sort of krap like the front camera(s), and any other such things like radar(s) and/or ultrasonic Parktronic sensors, etc. that support various functions like automatic cruise control with automatic speed change following, parking sensors, and the like. Can I achieve this goal by simply not ordering any such of these capabilities on my JT? If a JT is already equipped with such sensors, can you simply turn-off all of this stuff using a good OBD-II programmer?

BTW, I assume my JT's near vertical windshield will get busted and cracked on a somewhat frequent basis, so another advantage is not having to get the super pricey OEM windshield that has the various capabilities necessary to support these features, not to mention the cost and hassle to have the cameras recalibrated after each and every windshield replacement. Even with zero deductible glass polices (like most of us have), the insurance companies will eventually red tag you after too many busted windshields, so out-of-pocket is sometimes wiser than jacked-up rates.

If you don't order the adaptive cruise control or front trail cam then there are no sensors on the front of the gladiator.
I am curious as to why you would worry about that when the mass of electronics on any modern vehicle is more than enough to dirty up your signal. I'm not sure the camera for the cruise would really affect you at all. And there are no ultrasonic sensors on the front of any US spec JT.

You forget the windshield folds down…and the myth of “recalibration” lives on.

There aren't any sensors of any kind built into or onto the windshield glass: it's all mounted in a pod behind the windshield (if you have the features.)

I believe the windshield glass has a special coating for the camera to properly look through it that is not present on the non-camera equipped vehicle.

It is not RFI that I am concerned about. The HF codan antenna blocks and affects the view of the front camera, thus setting off all sorts of alarms with the auto cruise control functionality, and the forward collision warning systems. The trail cam is a non issue. It does not see the Codan HF antenna.

Can all of this stuff be truned Off via OBD-II?
Some things I believe yes, but not all IIRC. But still, if you're going to turn it off, why pay to have it included in the first place?

EDIT: To clarify, I'm saying this because you asked if not ordering this group would mean there's no camera on the windshield. That is a correct statement. So don't order it and you'll get what you're looking for.

I plan to give my JTRD to my son, just as soon as my Tersla Cybertruck arrives, which appears to be maybe in 2023-2024+. I ordered it a few days after it was announced in Nov 2019, so there are like 500,000 orders ahead of me. I want my son to have all of the JT safety features. He will not be using HF, so I will remove the Codan HF radio and antenna when I give him my Gladiator. For my needs, it would be best if I can turn off all of these features, and then re-enable them for my son's use.

This makes more sense. Originally you asked if you could just not order the options. Seems your requirements have changed. You also complained about not wanting the fancy expensive windshield and wanted to avoid it. Is that not the case now?

I do believe most of it can be turned off, but that's no guarantee that it disables it from sending out an active signal for things like FCW and ACC. Chances are it just doesn't translate that signal into action.

The windshields have the same part number, so I don't think there's a special coating on any of them, unless they all have it. The camera equipped JTs do not have a different windshield part number.

Edit: it looks like for the tinted option, Quadratec indeed has a different part listed for the vehicles with active cruise control.

The collision avoidance system has a disable option in the 8.4 Uconnect settings. The ACC has a button on the steering wheel to enable it for use. The default is off for the ACC.

I may very likely cancel my order for the JTDR to change to the 3.6 Pentastar, based on all the problems with over heating on the diesel, thus my order specs vs/ disable scenarios.

As to the glass replacement economics, since my CT is still several years out from delivery to me, realistically I expect to have several busted windshields by then, thus my concern over windshield cost, especially given the fact I may go out if pocket to avoid insurance premium hikes.

As far as turning things off yet active signals still going out, those freqs are all so far removed from HF they will have zero effect on my Codan. It’s strictly the optical camera being obstructed, or in any way coming into view of the antenna, where the HF antenna that will be an issue. As long as I can kill the camera, I should be good to go, unless there are any ultrasonic transmitters that could get a return ping off the antenna, and get a false trigger. But, I assume if all of the pertinent safety systems are disbled via programming the OBD-II, this should not be a problem. Of course, ultrasonic freqs around 25kHz to 30kHz have zero impact at HF.
