How far is too far on a Rubicon. I was going to go 2”, but wasn’t sure if I would cause future long term issues. Thanks

2" is really poking the tires way out there. The Rubicon tires are pretty much dead even with the lip of the fenders from the factory I think. On my Overland EcoDiesel, I put 295/70 tires on the stock wheels with no spacers and the sidewall tread is actually 1/4" outside the fenders.

So, very little additional width is desirable in my opinion. I've seen guys do the BORA 1" spacers and that doesn't look too bad.

I personally wouldn't go over 1-3/4 inches but you should be ok with 2" and not have no issues. I got 1-3/4 on mine and wish I could of found 1.5 inch but I like how mine sits. I got 37 12.5 17 Goodyear MTRs on mine with stock 17x7 wheels. I got the wide track axles on my max tow like a Rubicon has as well.

Why not buy a wheel with backspacing offset that put the “poke” where you want it?

That cost more, and is pretty much no different than using a spacer. If he wanted new wheels he probably wouldn't be asking about spacers.

I guess…I would never use spacers or trust my life to spacers…just saying. I guess some people’s lives aren’t worth doing things right…

1-5/8" and 1-3/4" are pretty standard on the JL/JT, and 2" should not cause a significant increase in problems (if any). A 2" spacer is the equivalent of a -7 offset wheel, which is less than what many people run without issue. Just make sure you use a quality product, and not some cheap knockoff that might break.

We know, hopefully, there are laws in most states that are there to keep the tires under the wheel well for safety reasons. Same goes for max headlight height abve the road surface. I do wish the laws were vigorously enforced. There is a time and place for the poke and lift just not on the street/daily driver. Thankfully for some, I was not a LEO.

I've never seen or heard of a hubcentric spacer failing in 20+ yrs of seeing people us them. Don't know where the putting your life on the line using them would come into play. There have been plenty of false myths that's been passed down through the generations about wheel spacers. Same goes for oil and other things. If you don't want to use them then don't but nothing wrong or unsafe about them.

Make sure you don't just buy the cheapest ones you can find and get hub centric ones and you will be fine.

Who makes the "thinnest" spacer for the JT currently?

I’m considering doing the same size tires on my stock Overland wheels too and was wondering if the tires would add a little Poke which is what I want. If not I’ve thought about Running a 1.75 in spacer to add some poke outside the fender. But of course, I’m hesitant on running a spacer all together. I’m pretty dead set on the Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLTs, but open to anything that’s going to help achieve the look I want. if adding the 295/70 like I plan, pushes slightly out than I may be fine without a spacer.

What tire did you add in that size? And you have any side angled pics showing what you mentioned?

Also can anyone clarify if assuming there are spacers out there for JTs thinner than 1.75 inches (which is the smallest I’ve seen)wouldn’t you have to cut the original lug studs to prevent them from sticking out from being flush with the spacer?

Ahhh, yes, please more laws and govt intervention. That’s what we need. /s

Some people like the stock wheels. Especially Overland wheels for example. I personally can’t justify buying all new wheels on a wheel that’s actually looks good from the jump. Overland wheel in many’s opinions are arguably the best looking stock wheel of any trim. So I’m kind of in the same delima as the OP. Are they my absolute favorite, no. But I like them enough to not buy new wheels at least not right away when tires are pricey and I have other mods in the making. Not sure his reasoning, but that’s mine. Yes I am hesitant about running ANY spacer at all. However, I wouldn’t go as far as thinking I was risking my life if I had or chose to. Long as they’re hub centric and a good brand, most ppl are fine. I just don’t want to if I don’t have to.
