Mojaves (like the op has) and Rubicons don't have air dams. Actually, do any of the models still come with an air dam? Mojaves and Rubicons never did.

Well, every 22 Rubi and Mojave I have seen has the lower air dam/skid plate. Or am I just seeing things?

Oh, you're talking about the front skid plate. I thought you were taking about the thing that goes between the bumper and the fender flare on some of the sport models.

On some models, like my Overland, there is a large air dam mounted just under the bumper in the area where the skid plate is located on the Rubicon and Mojave.

Why yes, and its usually the first thing that goes when you go to an aftermarket bumper. Its more for aerodynamics than it is for protecting anything.

The air dam or the skid plate?

Yea definitely my thoughts. I could live with 14/15 in the city. But 11 seems like there is an issue. They advertise up to 17 city,. But 6 mpg below that??
hmmm, I just dealt with dropping gas mileage in my JK. I lost 2 mpg. Got me curious so I took out my non contact infrared thermometer and checked the brakes. Sure enough, one caliper was sticking and dragging. Replaced the caliper and mileage is back at 17 mpg.

I know your Jeep is new, but at that low a mileage I’d start looking at things that could be impacting your mileage.

It seems like something is wrong if you're getting 11 mpg on a stock Mojave only weighed down a bit by a metal bumper and winch. Were you able to keep the skid plate? When my stock Mojave was new, I could not get better than 15 mpg. After about 7K miles it crept up to 17 mpg. Now, with 17K miles, I get 18 to 18.5 mpg. That's with city driving where stop lights are a country mile apart. If I get on it, it'll drop to 17 mpg quick. If I'm on the freeway at 75 mph, the mpg quickly drops to 15.

I have never been able to get my MPG above 12. No way this seems normal. I just drive form home to work and back everyday. Any thoughts on why its so bad?
Considering I can average 12mpg while towing a 5,700lb boat? Yeah, that doesn't sound right.

Not on Mojaves and Rubicons. That's a bonified, big heavy steel skid plate. The air dam on an overland must be different. The Rubicon one is there to protect the sway bar disconnect motor (and front end). The Mojave one is there to protect the shocks. Without that skid plate, the sway bar disconnect motor is naked and in the open. They are very much functional on both. It's a real skid plate.

I don't know if they're exactly the same, but the Rubicon skid plate is quite heavy, thick metal. It's the same on my jku. I have to assume the Mojave one is just as thick. We have actual skid plates, not airdams.

It's there to cover this thing, way back in the center. That skid plate is actually legit/functional.

The air dam is just for aerodynamics. It covers things up fairly well, but has no real protective value.
Right, but the post I quoted didn't state what they were talking about.

I just assumed they were talking about the air dam, since they mentioned aerodynamics. Both the air dams and skid plates get removed on many aftermarket bumper installs.

Yep. Skid plate fit perfectly.

Regardless, air dam or not, it wont make a 6-7 mpg difference.
