And where do you get them?
A lot of the quirks about a Jeep are what make it a Jeep, and I love a lot of them, but I have always found the gap between the fenders and the bumper to be hideous.
This fixes that for me. Thanks

Air Dams. Removed mine the first week. Kind of a pain. Unscrew everything. Its like 12-18 screws and maybe a bolt here and there and then yank like hell. Ugliest things ever.

And all those screws have really long threads. I just removed them on my friend’s JL. I trimmed them and put them back on. It was a time consuming process since I wanted it to look right. I’m kind of a perfectionist like that even though its not my Jeep. I’m not super happy with the edges, but I got them pretty good with a steady hand sanding them with a dremel bit.

I'm considering doing the same thing. Cutting them down to make covers for the fog lights and wires. Sometimes it amazes me the dumb shit designers come up with.

They serve a purpose, it's more than just a design. Cutting mine down helped me decide on getting a full width bumper over a stubby bumper. They keep the air from getting up inside your fenders and force it around the truck rather than into the fenders which will cause lag. Your MPG's will fall once you cut them down, how much will depend greatly on how aggressive you drive your truck. I'd be willing to bet either way your going lose close to 1 mpg, that's pretty much how much I lost and I baby my jeep.

You would think adding a heavier front bumper and winch would of made my MPG's go down but because I closed that gap back mostly with a full width high clearance bumper, it actually went back up about .5 mpg.

I will admit they aren't the most eye pleasing thing but they do have function.

I REALLY wish I had such a thing.
I have found that my front wheels toss stuff out that opening and then it floats back to the windshield. Yes, the spray and crap on my windshield isn't from the person in front of me because no one is in front of me, it's from ME.
Not cool when you can't see through the windshield on a highway because of your own front tire spray........

And Monday I got home and got out of the truck and something caught my eye - sitting on the cowl just below the windshield was a white rock - from my own tires. It made it between bumper and fender and came back over the hood.

The Australian spec Rubicons with the steel bumper come with plastic gap filler pieces standard. We get max tow spec fenders on the Rubicons over here, so I suspect they would work on models like yours. Most people here immediately remove them, but I may have my set in my workshop. When I get back from travels I’ll see if I can find them and post the part numbers here.

I thought I read on here they quit installing them on newer models?

Most people hate those, so you may be able to get some take offs.
Post up a Want to Buy and see if you get any luck?
Yet some in this feed get anal if you call them dumb. Lol. They're truly uglier then sin.

I think they did, but that was the purpose of putting them on, the extra MPG's you get. The Max tows were the main ones that had them and it helped with towing MPG's. Either way, once you remove them the MPG's will drop that's a for sure. I'd suggest if you decide to swap out the OEM bumper to something aftermarket try to find one that closes that gap back in.

I average around 17.2 to 17.8 mostly on mine on 37 12.5 17 Kanati Trail Hogs.

I think they look nice and aerodynamically functional on some rigs sometimes, but sometimes I don’t like them on others. So, I’m undecided. The idea that some aftermarket bumpers mimic the style and are well accepted proves that it’s not a bad idea. So, perhaps if Jeep had streamlined them a bit more, they would have had broader appeal? As well, given sharply increasing fuel costs, Iā€˜m temped to try near anything to reduce the pain at the pump. …Then again, I just bought bigger tires, so i’m admittedly conflicted.

If you are eventually needing a winch, you could solve the problem by getting a Rubicon steel bumper and taking off the end pieces to make it a stubby. After that, no aerodynamics are required. lol...
