Texas Hill Country Overland Route (Mason, TX to Highway 87 portion).

It was fun, just dirt roads and a couple of river crossings. There’s some spots to get your flex on if you need to though (if you go behind where my truck is in that last pic). The James River crossing wasn’t too deep, but I'm certain it can get suspect if it’s after a big downpour.

Oops! I’m sure recovery went fine. Two very capable vehicles.
Yep we got everything out, just needed the rain to let up for a while and a couple yanks. The family and I enjoyed a wet, slippery 3 mile hike out to get cell service for a ride, luckily I mountain bike these mountains regularly so I cut about 4 miles off the hike haha.

Drove south on High Point Truck Trail 8S05 down to Palomar Divide Truck Trail 9S07. Didn’t realize the road goes through private property to the observatory, at least that’s the way I read the sign. There was an unlocked gate, but I had time and backtracked out east even though that added more miles.

Can confirm: private property around Palomar Observatory blocks part of the Palomar Divide Truck Trail there.
I came up from the south on the S6 and there is a locked gate at (33.3596970, -116.8724121) right next to the Palomar Fire Station.
Also, there is a locked gate off the 76 at (33.2673351, -116.8204667) blocking the north end of mesa truck trail and 11S01 from Ramona, roads I’ve been planning on driving.
It kinda stinks that people can block these forest service roads so they are not through-routes.
