Eco diesel or 3.6 gas??

Diesel is a heavier duty transmission. It is stronger. It is not the same as the gas.


It’s not a big deal at all. Cleaning my windshield at the gas station is a whipping comparatively.

As for maintenance, my coat of maintenance in 19k miles has been $45 more than my wife’s WK2. The $45 has been for def.

Oil changes will be about $25 more as the filters are more expensive.

In thinking about it, the cost of maintenance isn’t really a big deal at all.

Fuel cost is the same. My last vehicle required premium. Fuel cost is a wash.

Not sure why that's relevant? Most people dont buy the gladiator for anything more than 6K lbs. But I did own 2 jeep Jls, one with the pentastar, and the other with the Pentastar and etourque. This truck and engine package blows them both away.

If I wanted more than 6k, I would have purchased a Tundra, or a 3500. C'mon now. The diesel engine on these jeeps is for pushing weight from tires, lifts, and crawling.

I test drove the Eco diesel for the first time last week. I was impressed with it but is it worth the added price and the extra costs associated with the higher cost of diesel, def fluid, and most importantly, reliability. Reliability is the big one with me. For the folks with the newest version, how has it been holding up??

15000 flawless miles on our Glad diesel. DEF costs are very minor, although diesel costs are painful. Drive it once and you'll forget about the fuel cost.

In general, gas will likely be cheaper in the long run. But let's face it, these vehicles aren't really about saving $$$ to begin with. I've ordered a gasser max tow after evaluating what was most important to me but don't feel like it's better than the diesels.

Like my v6 gasser. I can regear mine to 5.13s and add front and rear lockers for cheaper than a less loaded diesel. I just went and built a diesel on jeeps website and the cheapest I could build one ( for myself) was $51,000. Yikes!!! That’s over 7 grand more than I paid. That will pay for wheels, tires and regear and lockers. Then all I need is a lift.
so I guess if money doesn’t matter go for diesel. I would if I could but can’t justify it. I’m sure you won’t regret the diesel.

Def systems have a heater and i think there was revised programming to help this issue of it throwing a CEL.

Diesel and DEF can totally freeze if its 30 below....

I live in Northern Ontario Canada, I have yet to meet a diesel owner that has not had issues if parking outside, my 1st yr I had heated indoor parking and no issues, then moved and parked outside and my DEF system had many problems. Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Jeep, all the same shitty DEF system issue up here. The heaters seem to fail. So take it from a person who lives in a real cold winter climate, it can be a problem. Did I love my diesel? YES!! Did I hate my diesel? YES!! But I loved it when it was all good. We can do deletes here, but not keen on buying a 65k truck that I need to do a 4k mod on to make it dependable and have no powertrain warranty. But again, did I love it = Yes
