1st oil change on Pentastar.

What are people doing for first oil change. How many miles are u guys going before ur first oil change?

I did my first at 5K along with tire rotation, and then every 5K after same thing. Has worked well, this is my third Jeep with the Pentastar.

rotating mud tires = oil change but that usually ends up with 20%ish on the oil meter anyways so gets changed every time tires get rotated every 5.

What are people doing for first oil change. How many miles are u guys going before ur first oil change?

A search will produce roughly 10000 pages discussing this ranging from, change it immediately to wait until the truck says to change it at around 10000 miles.

It will also range from wal mart oil to amsoil to a variety of euro spec oils all of which will work and none of which will hurt.

Some will not care much and others will tell you that the almighty god (insert your god here), will strike you down where you stand if you don't use the whiz bang whale spooge that they believe is best (with not much actual proof).

All of them are correct.

I did my first one at 3k. I took the free one. The service writer said I could wait. I said I don't want to wait. She said "Your old School"

Might not be necessary to do it sooner, but I don't think it cant hurt either.

I am just under 9,000km (5500~ miles) and still showing 30% oil life. I will probably do a change before I hit 10k.

Follow the owners manual recommendations or do it early if you choose. Regardless of what you do, somebody will say you are doing it wrong.

Do not over think it.

Yeah, motor oil is a religion. It's a very personal and subjective thing.

As a data point, I also did my first oil change at 5,000 miles and I continue to change it every 5,000 miles.

The only filter I can find is the Mopar filter. It's cheap and it's on the shelf at Walmart which makes it a win-win for me.

I found when I ran 5W-30 my MPGs suffered a bit. I went back to 0W-20 and the MPGs improved again.

4 free oil changes with wave for 2 years so I go every 6 months no matter the mileage
