Mine has remote start option, so I don't have to be inside the cab to start it.
But you do have to press the brake pedal then the big round button to go anywhere after a remote start.
Remote start is also disabled under certain conditions, like hood open or other stuff.

Man tracks down and kills alleged car thief, gets shot himself in mall gunfire chaos…………(Nicholas McEntyre)

A Texas parking lot turned into a gunfight after a man tracked down his stolen vehicle Thursday afternoon to a nearby mall, where he shot and killed the alleged thief, who pulled out a gun himself and shot the owner.

The man and his passenger exited the South Park Mall in San Antonio around 1 p.m. to find their Ford truck missing.

The duo tracked down the vehicle to another parking lot at the mall to discover a male and female sitting in the truck.

“The owners of the stolen vehicle tracked the vehicle to the parking lot back here behind me. They showed up, they find the vehicle, there were two individuals, a male and a female in the vehicle,” San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said at a press conference near the mall.

The man, whose name was not released, held the suspects at gunpoint and directed the driver to sit down by one of the tires while they waited for police.

The thief then pulled out a handgun and shot the vehicle’s original owner, who returned fire and struck both suspects.

“At some point, the person who stole the vehicle and who is now being held at gunpoint by the owner of the vehicle produced a weapon from his waistband and shoots the owner of the vehicle,” McManus said.

The male thief was pronounced dead at the scene, according to San Antonio police.

The vehicle’s owner and the woman were transported to a local hospital, where they were listed in stable and critical condition, respectively.

Police did not say how the truck was tracked down and described the shooting as a case of self-defense.

In photos from the scene, the female thief is seen being assisted by a police officer and another female with blood running down her leg, while the dead thief is lying face down in the parking lot.

Police say the owner of the vehicle had every right to look for his stolen property.

“The owner of the stolen vehicle certainly has the right to track down his stolen vehicle. Now we would prefer that they call the police before taking that into your own hands, but he did what he felt he needed to do,” McManus concluded.

The dead thief’s brother challenged the car owner’s supposed right to chase him down and kill him.

“The victim was my brother and there are two sides to every story,” Jose Garcia said, according to KENS 5. “Whether my brother was wrong or right, he had a gun pointed at him. I guess he took it upon himself to defend himself.”

Garcia called the man who shot his brother a vigilante, adding that people should wait for the police.

“The guy who shot him is a vigilante, not a hero. A vehicle is not worth taking someone’s life, I don’t care what kind of car it is. You don’t take the law into your own hands,” Garcia added. “Now my mom, my family, we all have to suffer and just deal with it.”

Damn shame. Bet the dead thief had the cure for cancer locked in that brain and now is lost.

I am sure it pisses many off, but Texas does have a deadly use of force law in defense of property to include ones vehicle.

On the other hand - who shot first? The @#$$ thief. So I really can't say anything negative about the owner as all he was doing was trying to hold them in place until police arrived.
If he had shot them to stop the theft, that may be different but it was self-defense. The @$$ pulled a gun and shot first.

This was not the case here. The victim used deadly force to defend his life.

He did use the threat of deadly force to detain the thief was apparently was more willing to murder the man he stole from than face the consequences.

cops and DAs not doing their jobs is leading to this. I feel bad for the truck owner. He has to live with taking a guys life because SAPD refused to do their job.

No where in that upper quote does it say the owner contacted the police before he attempted to track down his vehicle.

You need to walk a mile in a policeman's shoes before you start pointing fingers.

He did notify police. After he tracked down the thieves. However, normally when you report something stolen, it's quite a while before anyone shows up because of how busy they are with more critical things involving safety, life and limb.

It's not the fault of the police..........
Iv'e been there. not with a vehicle theft but with stolen property and with a breaking and entering. I went to my parents house, found a broken window on the house door and the locks pried off the garage doors and said door forced open. It was quite a while before there was a response in the latter, and it was hours before there was a response on the stolen property. Do I blame the police officers themselves? No, they are stretched thin - but in the case of the break-in - uh, the person could still be in there!! Get here fast. An hour later isn't fast in a small town of 7,000 people.

Frankly, of he knew where that vehicle was, and knowing the response times involved and the fact that often it's all done over the phone with no one ever even visiting the site - I don't blame him. It's not at all like on TV where someone rushes to your door and looks around and takes tire tracks and fingerprints. I've never ever witnessed any of that in real life. That's all on TV. I've never seen police or anyone ever gather evidence at the scene of a crime. Exceptions - the highway patrol troopers here but then the region for our area has been reduced from 120 troopers to under 20 in the last 20 years.

A break-in at my parents house - broken windows, forced locks and do you think anyone even LOOKED at anything? Hey, at least take prints off that door knob. Nope, don't do that. I can understand that, though - needle in a haystack.

If my vehicle was stolen and I could at least track it down, locate it, I'd do it rather than wait hours for anyone to show up - if they did rather than take the info over the phone.

Just me, my first reaction would be I forgot where I parked. I confess that happened when I took my wife’s car and looked for the wrong car. If it was in easy walking distance, as this was, I’d want to at least see if the vehicle was where the app said it was before calling the police. I might even go have a chat first if I saw a clearly non-threatening occupant, all this stuff about key fobs with the same codes. (Note to self: skip chat if in Texas).

The problem is that - you don't know if they are non-threatening....... someone who looks like your 8th grade math teacher, clean cut, well dressed, chats for a while then feels "caught" and out comes the gun, or a knife or whatever.
You don't know what's behind a face.
I guess I'd ask - what's a clearly non-threatening occupant?
What does a thief look like?
What does an armed person look like?
What does a person with a short fuse look like?

no I don’t have to walk a mile in a policeman’s shoes. That’s such a stupid trope.

Why are so many Jeep thefts seemingly happening in Canada?

Any idea "how" - such as flatbed truck, or other means?
Any security cameras at the hotel?

port city... they put 'em on a cargo ship and off they go to an overseas market.

My friend who lives in Ottawa, and works for the government, had his JL stolen last year and this is what his contacts told him.
