Yep. Small CUV/SUV buyers like the Bronco Sport, Rav4, CRV, etc that are moving to BEVs/PHEVs.

We are in that market- Ms BourbonRunner's '23 Bronco Sport has been a nightmare of gremlins, recalls, transmission issues, and general Ford dealership tomfoolery and its getting yeeted at 36K when the warranty runs out. She daily drives 40ish mile each way, on a DC Beltway-heavy commute. We're strongly considering BEVs and PHEVs because she's the perfect use case- drive to work, drive home, plug in. Lather, rinse, repeat. This is precisely why I need to see the stats on this, not 99% complete exterior teaser photos.

If they were smart they wouldn’t build it. Not enough people are going to buy it. Ev’s aren’t selling. Look at the lots of fords mach e just sitting by the hundreds.

To the contrary- they must build it. They're pot committed. They've sank billions into BEV vehicle R&D, tooling, etc by now.

If they just cut it loose they can't likely write that off and start over, especially given Stellantis' shaky footing right now.

Ev’s aren’t selling
👬 Readers added context:

There are no data to support this claim. The number of EVs sold continues to increase year over year while sales of gas vehicles have been on a downward trajectory since 2017.
Look at the lots of fords mach e just sitting by the hundreds
If you were shown pictures of gas vehicles sitting unsold by the hundreds, would you call for an end to production of whatever unrelated gas model due to gas vehicles "not selling"?

Anyone who says EVS aren't selling gets their news from Facebook propaganda accounts.

Just let the market decide. Down here the Tesla dealer lot is jammed with everything. But so are the streets. If I wanted an EV, I would have one.

Exactly right. Some of us are good use cases, some of us are not. The gubmint must stop putting its finger on the scale and let the market do its thing.

That being said, I think the biggest obstacle to EV adoption right now is the price is too high for less vehicle compared to what you get on a lower spec gasser, at least in the truck/SUV category.

Here in the DPRMD, it seems like every 4th car on I95 is a Tesla. And most are Model Y's and 3's- the cheapest of the lineup. That should tell you something.

EV's are selling just fine.

But EV's as status symbols for early adopters as luxury items... That market is fading.

It's EV's for people now. They need to be price competitive in the segment they're in, against ICE to sell in numbers.

This won't sell, not because people don't want EV's, but because people aren't going to pony up 60k to have this vs a J4U ICE Cherokee or Rav 4 or whatever. It doesn't command a 25% premium over the ICE vehicles in it's segment.

IDK, though sales are off across the entire market, Ford can't get rid of Lightinings and Mach-E's. While F-Series have slowed, they are not close to the drop off (percentage) in Lightning sales. Tesla's sales projections have been downgraded, too.

I think the logical reasoning for the delta in sales is the last three statements you wrote above. They have to be competitive in their categories and price points. Just being zero emissions isn't enough. We're not quite there- yet.

Jeep outlives other off-road vehicles.
Ford Bronco is resurrected to complete with Jeep.
Jeep designs a Bronco, badges it as a Recon, to compete with the Ford Bronco.

...circle of life.

Or, more accurately, Jeep participating in a circular firing square with itself.
Last sentence says it all!
