The 3.6 is a very reliable engine. That's why there is 12,000 cams on backorder. The replacement part for the re call should be a 6.4 Hemi.
So why are there so many other parts on backorder? There are a lot of parts out there on backorder for the various automakers.
There's also still manufacturing and supply line issues. We've gone ultra-just-in-time in post-covid years.
If the backorder was ALL due to engine issues, you are talking something like 0.1% failure rate. Gee, not bad.
But no one can say the backorder is a direct result of failures - you are guessing.

A fraction of 1%.
One TENTH of one percent.
Not bad, really.
We also can't say ALL failures are a MOPAR issue......... we can bet some are user-caused.

This is from a master tech - Jeep -

So pretty much every post is an opinion on this - we have few facts.

I'm curious though, for all those that have had the dreaded tick and subsequent teardown, does pineapple really belong on pizza?

No, it doesn't grow native in NY or Italy.

I just cant with you really..

I don't know if we should be friends because you're so direct or if you're just another pineapple on pizza hater.

Valid point tho... 🤔

Straight weight because pineapples aren't winter rated.

Sorry........

Note the shirt worn by character "Sheldon" here - my son bought me one. Hmmm, hint-hint?

Hmm.....ambiguity is a tough one for me..

Perhaps we are more alike than I thought.

Threw a P0303 last week, just dropped it off at the dealership for that and two recalls. Was waiting for the clutch replacement because it wasn’t slipping yet and wanted to stretch that out as long as I could before getting a new free one. Tech said most likely the rocker and cam. I’m still covered under the power train warranty on my 2022 Willys Sport. I am not in dire need of the truck for the next 1-2 months, but thinking once it’s repaired I trade it in. Anyone think it would be faster to just push it to catastrophic failure and just get a whole new motor than to wait on the camshaft 😂

I have thought of doing that if I ever get that tic tic. I would have the dealer diagnose it first.

Sure, and be on record.... Even stating in public? I've seen catastrophic repairs denied because the owner knew of a problem. I've worked where that happened more than once.

I was joking about pushing it, but yeah I signed off on the diagnostic. It is what it is. My FIL is retired from GM and he’s getting a lot of great employee incentives, so once the cam is replaced, I may be bailing.

I guess I go by "the record" and not 'one-offs'.
We've had fantastic luck with Jeeps - anything to date has been minor save for the JLU transmission issue but that was ZF's issue, not Jeeps, and warranty covered it. Otherwise, all really small stuff for over 25 years. If one of these blows - that's one out of several that have been great.
Now if we got two out of those that had big issues - that's different. You can hit me once with problems - and I'll pay more attention to how you resolve those problems than the problem itself, but do it again, I re-evaluate.

My local dealer service writer
listened to the ticking
and without confirming camshaft failure
volunteered that they replace the engines
and it would take a couple of months.
No service ticket was written up for this
although he may have made a note of it
on his terminal.

He also scanned my VIN and stated
mine was first sold June 22, 2021.
He told me that starts the warranty clock,
not the date of manufacture.
Which for a Nacho like mine
could have been December 2020.

With only 25,000 miles on the odometer,
my plan is to drive it until March 2026
and then take it in.

A talk with my dealer service guy says that once the tick starts it doesn't take long before the cam is done. If you drive it too long the engine will be done. There are no new cams due to a supplier change.

Service tech called this afternoon to tell me that they are waiting on a part to complete the two recalls and that they are going with the camshaft being toast but that he has customers who have been waiting months. When they finish the recall work I have no idea if they will be releasing it back to me, but I think I will ask to speak to someone in sales and see if they will give me an offer to trade it in on either a Rubi or a Ram 1500 Warlock as I need a truck and they don’t have many options in my price range.
