I'm there, at the end of my list of must haves for the Gladiator... Gears. This is my daily driver, averaging around 150 miles a day during the week. I also like to hunt and camp at the end of the 4x4 roads where it's a little quieter, more remote and tougher to get to in your average 4x4. Not a dedicated rack krawler or towing vehicle. Currently running 37" Falken Wildpeak MT's, I will not ever go larger or smaller.

4.88's or 5.13's?

Shop recommendations Denver area? I'll probably ask them their recommendation on size as well...

Brand recommendation? Any I should avoid?

Pedal commander might make the difference for you if you feel they werent enough. Its $300 and may change how you feel 180deg. Call them up. They will usually give you a 30day no risk trial. Ive yet to meet someone who did the trial and sent it back. Install is minutes.

That said, Ive never heard anyone regretting 5.13. I chose 4.88 because

-im well tuned and have the power as well as pedal correction
-i may be required to go down to a 35” tire at any time; and 5.13 is too deep for that
-i intend to supercharge and i didnt want the smaller pinion head of the 5.13.

I met lots of people who say 4.88’s are great..a local dude who tows with his; Trail Recon’s opinion is 37/4.88 is perfect etc

5:13 for the altitude. I mean let's be real. We suffer from a lack of power from the beginning.
I mean when I wheel it's usually at 9,000+ feet. You are probably in the same boat.
My favorite camping spot is at 11,000+
High enough for chili to bubble and still be cold.

Ask @FR33DOM He runs 37s here in Colorado Springs.

Thank you all for your opinions! I was leaning 4.88s because of the mileage aspect but now it seems that might be a moot point.

Anyone have any experience with the local shops? Brand recommendations?

I’m in Colorado Springs, higher altitude than Denver, and 4.10 works just fine. I hit 7-8th gear on I - 25, towed cross country, and have traversed all high altitude Ouray passes without hesitation. Note, the “Off-road +” button is there for a reason and I’d argue that folks having transmission shifting issues haven’t calibrated it after installing 37s. Tazer Mini or SuperChips or AEV offer solutions for reprogramming.

It’s a Jeep not a 1/4 dragster.

Appreciate your input. I did reprogram with the Tazer and was pleasantly surprised that the transmission shifted as well as it does with the 4.10s, I also see 8th on the highway. I also see 3rd and 4th way too much at any slight hill and feel the transmission hunting way too much IMO, especially while in cruise on a straight flat part of 76 I drive weekly.

I also have a lot of extra weight that will always be on the truck. With those factors in mind regearing has more pros than cons for me.

Just bringing this back to the top... Still have not found a local shop to do the work. Called a few for pricing, only one got back to me.

Hey there,
I am in also in Denver and I have a heavy pig JTR... I also spoke with @FR33DOM and I am set on getting 5.13's when the slush fund is refilled.

There's a great thread on the FB group = Colorado Jeep Owners. I attached a screen shot below of a lot of recommended shops.

FWIW, I called Tanner 4x4 and CO Axle and Gear... both quoted me ~$2700 out the door for parts/master install kit/labor/tax/warranty. (I believe they were using G2 and Dana gears). I was told by many members on the Colorado Jeep Owners page that was too expensive. That being said, I never called the recommended shops in the screen shot to find out pricing. Edge Automotive 4x4 came up a bunch in that FB thread though and I wanted to call them.

I think if you are going to regear, 5.13 is your jack of all trades for CO daily driving. Love mine and I sometimes wish I’d gone 5.38 for a little more tow torque but I think a Magnussen SC will scratch that itch in the next year or two :)

Should have bought the diesel-- TORQUE is your friend, not HP...

Good call. I will probably never go bigger than 35....lots to do to move to 37s. But then I see what @FR33DOM has on the trail....
The point about the Tazer @Sorbs made is solid as well. Recalibrate for tire size. Shifting gets much better.

We need to get a Colorado group out for some Saturday fun. I'll taking my buddy to see Old Stage and some of the Forest Roads this weekend.
