40" tires... Talk me out of it

I have started to plan my sting grey 2021 Gladiator Sport max tow build. I have narrowed my down my lift and tires to the Rock Krawler Pro-x 3" with 37" tires or the Rock Krawler Pro-x 4.5" lift with 40" tires. I've heard people say they do not like the look of the 40" tires on the Gladiator. However let's take into account that I do like the look of the 4.5" lift with 40's but this is my first Jeep/truck build and I want to know if there is any reason to talk me out of the 4.5" lift and the 40's into the 3" and 37's.

These will go on my warm jackhammer gunmetal wheels by the way. Which are beautiful!

37’s aren’t big anymore. I vote 4.5-6” lift and 42” MTR’s. Remember. If you still have bed space after lifting, you’re doing it wrong.

35-37” tires might get you down the trail. But they’ll never bring you glory on the ‘gram. Defeat the purpose of having a pick up truck in the first place. Go 42’s.

Now this man gets it! Figured the 4.5" and the 40's would meet in the middle of getting down the trail and the Gram. ;)

Even with the Dana 44's?
Yes. 40s on Dana 44s are pushing it for off roading. 37s or 38s are usually considered the biggest you want to go on 44s without beefing up your axles or replacing them if you take it wheeling. I've opted for 37s with beefed up axles (amongst other things like gears, etc).

Don't spin the tires in low gear, cause once it catches grip "snap, crackle, pop"

3" lift with 40's & Fenders. As for the axles you can replace them or you can add quite a bit of beefing up the stock ones for a bit of savings. Given that your starting with a Max Tow I think either option would be fine. I have a Max Tow & I beefed mine up. 35 spline rear shafts & the front will be replaced with RCV's someday (if the 35 spline RCV's were actually able to be obtained when I did my upgrades I would have). ARB Lockers at both ends. I also had my axles trussed at the same time I had the lockers installed. To do over again it would be a tossup between doing this again & going to 60's. I Probably saved 6-7k but considering it was still about 10k I am not sure which makes more sense.

I'm running 35's now, once they wear out probably gonna try 37's.

I had 315 70 17 BFG KO2S and regretted putting them on after the first week. I've been wanting 37's ever since but the dang BFGs just last forever. I recently swapped them out for a use 70% treaded set of Goodyear Kevlar MTRs 37 12.5 17 tires I got for $550 total mounted and Balanced. I considered a 39 12.5 17 Kanati Mud Hog but the weight of the tire and having to do a regear made me decide on the 37's. I'm pleased with the look. One of the main reasons I'll never go 40's is the cost associated with getting it done and the altering of the axles plus I really like my stock steely wheels and have no desire to swap them for anything aftermarket. Sure 40's look great but I'm happy with my 37's and that will be the standard for me. I'm getting over 17mpgs which is a night and day difference from my JKU that got 12-13 at best on 37's. If I regear down the road I can make that number go up but if I don't then I'm content where I'm at and I feel like I can tackle a decent trail in my rig if I choose to and still feel comfortable driving on the road with it as well. That's important to me because it's my daily driver that I have put almost 22,000 miles on in a year of ownership. Whichever way you go I'm sure it will look great.
