Hey guys, figured with the ACT clutch being a recent release to the market I would post my thoughts.

Last week I ordered the ACT JP6-HDSS, it showed up from California to New Hampshire in about 6 days. Couldn't complain. It showed up looking very high quality and professional. All of the parts are vacuum sealed and shrink wrapped. I got to installing it last night, WHAT A BEAR!!, I am a competent mechanic. Ive built many vehicles over the years from diesels and rock crawlers to Evos and this was NOT a fun job, it took about 7 hours beginning to test drive. Granted I had an extra attention to detail because I wanted to keep my 6k mile rig looking factory underneath. The stock clutch is a JOKE, my dual mass was mostly totaled from rock crawling, it had a ridiculous amount of slop/clunk to it, and the stock clutch disc is tiny. My final impressions of the clutch are good, its very resistant to stalling, has smooth engagement and feels very natural. The clutch pedal throw is a little short, with engagement close to the floor, but it doesn't feel wrong or out of place. I assume the short clutch throw has more to do with the stock hydraulics than anything.

The install is not a fun one, the 3.6 has a ridiculous amount of bell housing bolts, it feels like the entire gladiators wiring harness is attached to the trans, and there's a few random size bolt heads that don't make much sense. If you're going to do it yourself, make sure you have a vehicle lift, I'm not sure you could get it done on the floor without completely removing the transmission which adds a lot of extra steps to the job. I completed the job without disconnecting the shifters. and I kept the y pipe in place as well as the transferase attached to the trans. Last but not least I'm almost certain the flywheel only goes on these motors 1 way which is interesting to do alone LOL.

That's a tiny clutch disc. LOL That's the size disc that you would use for a double disc clutch.

I think technically the stock clutch is a dual disc, but the second clutch disc is encased in the pressure plate somehow.

No... it's a single disc. I have a ATS carbon twin disc in my Nismo.

The stock clutch is definitely a twin disc.
Does it have 2 friction disc's? That looks like it's a dual mass flywheel. A lot of vehicles have that now.

I just chuckled that you called out the President of ACT on his knowledge of clutches!!

DMFW's have been a thing in domestic vehicles since at least the 20-teens, so that tech is super common.

Twin disc in an OEM setup is a bit rarer, normally seen in performance applications. My Mustang has an OEM Twin Disc. Everything I have read has stated that the Gladi has an OEM twin. I'll know for sure when I rip it out, lol

Good info, curious to hear if anything changes after a few miles of break in.

If the shorter pedal travel isn't an issue relative to the Centerforce hydraulics (sounds like it's not from your first impression), the. I could see that being a nice alternative being that no hydraulic modifications are needed.

How is the pedal force? Sorry if I missed that in the original post.

Engagement should be about mid-stroke according to our tests so I am curious about that. We will have a Gladiator in the shop in two weeks for another install video and further testing.

The pedal travel is feeling much more normal after a couple of days, and the pedal force is very normal. more than a stock JT but comparable to my wife's JK or other similar trucks.

Just a follow up from the first tank of fuel. The clutch feels great, much more natural. The heavy flywheel makes the truck carry speed better on road and is much less jerky in general. Overall a GREAT upgrade to the JT

On road the clutch/flywheel is great, but off road is where it really shines. It'll idle over rocks and through obstacles without even a hiccup.A vast improvement of the stall prone factory set up. Overall, very happy, and I will suggest it to anyone who complains about their JL/JT 6 speed. I would go as far as to say it even makes up for the odd gearing spacing that people complain about on these trucks.

My Nismo had a dual mass flywheel and single disc as oem. When I went twin turbo. I went with a dual disc carbon ATS. That was a $3,200 hit.
